GU Patrol Tyre Sizes

Guys,

Noticed that the ST Patrols (in the GU 1) came with 265/70 tyres which are about 30 - 31 inch, yet the DX's came with 33 inch tyres.

Does that indicate that the DX's have more room in the guards as standard, maybe a factory bodylift?

Reason being, I was wondering if a GU DX with a 2 inch lift can fit 35's

i doubt the dx came with 33's and no such thing as a factory body lift either for the dx.

but i can safely say that you can fit 35's to any GU wagon with 2" lift i've done this and know of many other to do so as well from DX wagons to ST and TI's.

The DX did in fact come with a standard 7.5 R 16 (or 750R16), giving it an overall diameter of 810 mm, or, you guessed it, just over 33 inches (as stated above - that's technically a "33").

However, GQAndrew, don't get caught up on the 33, 35, or even 37 issue. The "33" that came on the DX was only a very narrow tyre, which is probably why it could fit on a stadnard GU Wagon without issue.

Remember, a 285/75/16 and 305/70/16 are both 33's - only the latter is a wider tyre that may cause some rubbing issues on a standard truck.

You really need to be more specific when saying 33 or 35 - the width is what is going to catch you out, not neccessarily the height (which is what "33" and "35" refers to - height). Work out whether you are looking at 33 x 10.5 or 33 x 12.5 - same size tyre in diameter (height), but very different widths.

Hope this helps.

DX's came with 235/80R16 tyres, with out flares. But it is the same body and wheel arch as the rest off the line up.
So with the flares fitted it loses clearance by about 2mm all the way around the arch (about the thickness of the plastic).
DX - 5.50F 16 split rims with 7.50R16 8PR tyres (Manual)
DX- 6JJ16 spoked steel wheels with 235/80R16 tyres (Auto)
With optional - 8JJ16 spoked steel wheels with 265/70R16 tyres
Everything else gets - 8JJ17 alloy wheels with 275/65R17 tyres

Tyre size was tken from the Nissan web site of Aus.

I have a ST cab chassis and run 3" springs and fit 315s (35) without any probs. The only thing needed was to remove the mud flaps which fall of anyway.

A 235/80/16 works out be a 31.04' tyre

A 235/85/16 works out to be a 31.98 tyre

If a 7.50/R16 is 810mm, then that works out to be a 32.4" tyre. Although I thought the 7.50/R16's were the same size equivilent of a 235/85/16...?

ah yes, mathematical error!!!!!!!!

Was doing it from memory - thought it was 24.5mm to the inch whereas, it is in fact 25.4mm to the inch .... dooohhh!!!! Should never have trusted that stupid memory of mine. GUJohnno - thanks for pointing out the error.

Therefore - 810mm divided 25.4mm = 31.88" or, rounded 32" tyre.

Sorry for the stuff-up, and I consider myself duly SPANKED!

You can stop rolling your eyes, the series 1 GUs came with 265/70/16 as standard. I think all of the others since did too. It was only the CabChassis that had 75series tyres.

Not all - the 4.8 petrol came with 275/70/16. But they only sell about 10% 4.8's, so it is often the "forgotten one".

I hope it isnt me that the rolling eyes are at. If so you might wanna send some rolling eyes to Nissan.com.au, as that is where I got my info from. :finger:
