100 series diffs

Gday
considering putting 100 diffs under the 80....4.3 ratio, bigger brakes, larger axle studs, larger c/v's etc etc, but the rear diff doesnt have any callipers on it....does anyone know if they are thesame as an 80's rear callipers???? Pads are thesame, wondering if piston diameter is thesame aswell as mounts....
Thanks
Andrew

Is that definite that 100 series cv's are larger than 80 series?

I have some and assumed they would be the same size.

Ok, was told the c/v's were bigger...thats one more nail in the coffin.....will end up cheaper buying gears and enlargiong studs for mine than doing the swap....

100 series are also 5 stud where as 80 series are 6 stud, means new rims for you, damn is that another nail I hear :?

No, the 100 rims are cheap compared to an 80 series gxl rim....and i know of a set of et's on 105 rims....the problem to overcome is width of diffs, as they are a little wider than 80 diffs (if you can see that as a problem)
Im not sure about brake swept areas, etc, but i do know the rear handbrake drum is alot larger than an 80 series....so should work better....

I was reading on a Yank website that later (92 on) 80 Series and 100 Series front brakes are the same except that the 100 runs larger pads which gives more pad surface area.
They were saying to put a 100 Series pad into the 80 as a brake upgrade.

Yes, ive done this mod and it is worth doing....betterer stopping brakes....
I cant remember whether the 100 discs are thicker or if it is the callipers that are wider, but the pads are thicker and you cant fit new 100 pads in an 80 with new discs unless you loose the heat shields....which isnt a drama anyway!
So there is something changed up there other than squarer pads (more surface area than 80 pads)

i beleive 80s run a small and a large piston where as the 100s run 2 the same. the 100s do change 10/2002 to a thicker disc. the IFS are larger than the solids, this also applies to the rear calipers. Im not sure that you can swap these.

100's cv's are larger than the 80s, they have a thicker stub shaft and thicker bell. they have roller stub axles and larger front wheel bearings, late 80's (more common in the abs models) will have 100s cv shafts.

You can fit 80s rear handbrake assemble hubs and discs to a 100s housing to maintain 6 stud. when you redrill the hub to the larger studs one of the studs leaves a thin wall between the tapped holes.

you can also fit the 80s rear diff ctr to the 100s housing but you would need to notch the housing due to the offset on the crown wheel and the way that they bolt up being different. (also have different spline count the fronts are the same between the 80-100 and hilux.

personally i would swap the 100's in if i had the chance.

Rear brakes are the same size, caliper, h/brake as the 80 but the front has bigger rotors (~ 10-15mm)and so the caliper is different too.

All the front pistons on my brakes are the same size, 1995 model 80 series. I know the 60 series ones have diff sized pistons, the top 2 being smaller than the bottom 2 on each caliper.

I believe the only difference in cv is there lenght not size.

Ok, so im hearing the handbrake is thesame diameter....it looked bigger when he disc was out of my mates 100.....bummer..good my callipers will fit :-)
Good the front discs r larger, better brakes again...turbo 4.5's need it!
Wider track will come in handy with a descent lift....
Bigger studs on rear axles, roller bearings on the front c/v. 4.3's with my auto should make things better all round
I think i will give these a go if they are any good....and let you know how i go.

I was told that 92 on 80 Series front calipers were twin 45mm pistons just like the V6 4 Runners ??
Anyone know how similar an 80 Series and IFS V6 4 Runner caliper is and if the 100 Series pad will fit ??

Gday
The 100 pad will fit in them i believe...i know he 80 pad does, so it should....but....the disc is the problem....thats why i couldnt run 80 pads in the v6 runner calliper..i had to run late 75 series after 1990 or hilux after 90 pads...but the 100 ones might be able to be made to fit....
worth a try

Changing the hubs over aint that easy as all cruiser up to the 78-79&100 series the stud and dowel holes are drilled on a 90mm P.C.D. on the 100 hubs it was enlarged to 92mm P.C.D. so the holes need to be offset to fit 100 series axles and or Free Wheel hubs onto 6 wheel stud hubs. When i fitted the 100 rear into my 80 i modified the 100 hubs to 6 wheel studs so i could use the 100 axles with the larger stud flange.
