how can i wire a reley as a resister as i have no resistor and was told that you need to wire a relay in so the coil isnt recievng 12 volts all the time with ignition on

somone has given you the wrong info,If your vehicle is fitted with a ballast type coil (ie 6volt coi) then you must run an external resistor.If you are running a 12volt coil, then I have seen people run a relay energised by the starter circuit to supply 12volts direct to the coil but this is only to overcome any voltage drop in the vehicle wiring which should be repaired and not bypased.I think somone may have there wires crossed,hope this helps you
