Diesel and lpg

Just tried and experiment with lpg fumigation in my 80 series 1hdt. On the graph are before and after power and torque figures at the wheels. The only difference is the vehicle running on lp gas. No other sttings were adjusted.
It does work, 20%more power and torque. Will set it up properly on the vehicle to road test and see the difference.

It is running a diesel with a small pecentage of lpgas added. Not just lp gas only.

Not getting much improvement in the lower speed end. you'd have to push the motor pretty hard to get the power. I rekon you'd be better off turbo'ing.

HJ60.... If you read the graph again, you will see it's a 1HDT engine so it's already turbo'ed

You don't run Lpg injection on a naturally aspirated diesel.
What kind of negatives are to be expected when running this setup (If any) Not much info about, why is that, too expensive for the amount that is gained?? 20% seems quite attractive.

First of al the graph is done with the vehicle in 4th gear, full throttle all the way through to the end. It shows that adding more fuel down low doesnt do anything with power as the turbo charger will only spin up at as fast as its design will allow, this means its at its limit. I will get a boost graph to show this.
To fit lpgas to a diesel has to be done by a specialist gas fitter in accordance with each states laws.
Negatives: some extra weight and cost of the sytem.
Positives: More overall milage, better fuel economy, a cleaner running engine, cleaner engine oil, cleaner exhaust emissions, more power and torque.
The gas is not injected into the combustion chamber, it is added as a vapour into the inlet system before the turbo charger. It should not be done like this if an intercooler is fitted as this can and will cause explosions of the system.

Hooked it up so I could road test this. WOW....what a difference, pulls to the stage of pushing you back in the seat. Even accelerates up hills in 5th gear.
I am going to make this a permanent mod for my vehicle.

ah right. i didn't read that. I thought they put out more power than 100kw though
and at a lower rpm

My vehicle in stock trim only had 70 kw at the wheels.
This is a big diifference in both power and torque.

they probably do but at the flywheel, i think the above specs are at the wheels

what sort of regulator are you using to regulate the supply of gas?? also what size oriface into the intake tube, is it a variable regualtor or fixed. I plan to do this to my TD42 shortly, I am a mechanic on the northside of Brisbane, we are soon to get a dynamics dyno (deposit paid) so I was holding off till then

I spent awhile searching the net to try and find a suitable regulator that would be variable and have some sort of boost pick-up so that the amount of gas flow was increased with the amount of boost produced. (sort of load sensing)
However I have failed to come up with anything that will seem perfect for the job. I am currently looking through a heap of sites with nitrous regulators/controllers on them.

First of it was a bbq bottle fitted to see what happens. The convertor was from a 2.6 sigma engine. The orifce was approx 6-8 mm id. You dont need a varaiable orifice as the convertor works of air draw to measure gas flow.
I will be fitting the diesel/gas system properly very soon.

Here in Pakistan there is some rumour of LPG kits.. how much is the system for? We have cylenders easily available here that we can use.. Can this be fabbed up?

just to clear things up here can you run diesels on straight gas or do they all have to be on LPG fumigation?

They need to be fumigated.
Gas system has to be fitted as per Australian standards

No diesels do not run on straight gas, the gas is mixed in with existing diesel at a small rate like 10%gas 90% diesel.

it's not doing much, then. power/torque gains on indirect injected diesels are minimal - possibly 5% peak gain - a waste of $.
