I'm in the process of making up a bash plate from the front bullbar as far back as the steering damper spanning the chassis rails. But there will be a large enough gap from behind the damper to the sump for water to get into the fan & belts.
I've looked at Lux's and they seem to have a factory shield covering this area (from radiator to sump).
I've looked at Patrols and they have minimal protection under there.
One thing with the old IFS was that it was well shielded from water/mud from underneath.
I'm thinking of some thick rubber to cover the gap behind the steering damper to the engine sump.
We have a lot of water/mud down here and alternators/starters/clutches/AC compressors/bearings get a tough time.

My Rovers all had heavy Rubber attached to the back of the Bash Gaurd thyen cable tied to the bumpstops, this kept most out. The datsun just seems to not worry about it.

The way I worry about it is only go in the mud if I HAVE to.
