Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I´ve got a Suzota project in the planning stages; a Suzuki SJ413W or pickup, engine undecided, Hilux axles and so on and so forth.
I´m rather keen on the 5.15:1 first gear in the Dyna gearbox and in some topic here on the forum I read something about taking that first gear and installing it in the Hilux gearbox. How much of a hassle is that? Is it a straightforward swap or is there a lot of machining and fabrication involved? I´d like some comments from someone who´s done that.
How about fitting the Hilux transfer case onto the Dyna gearbox? Anyone done that? If so, would that gearbox fit onto the back of a Hilux engine?
And for that matter; is the bellhousing bolt pattern the same on all Toyota passenger car, 4x4 and van engines the same? Anyone care to recommend an engine? I´m thinking something in the 2.2 - 2.8 litre region, with good low end torque but still willing to rev, as with the gearing and tyres I´ll probably use, I´ll need over 2700 revs to go 100km/h.

I have a dyna box behind a 2.8 to the standard transfer case. I bought the box of Marks 4WD with the extension housing on it. I dont know if they would sell the ext housing without buying a complete box off them.
The bellhousing is out of a 2.8 dyna.

Clearly the easiest way to get this setup together, is to use a Hilux or Dyna engine and to have both a Hilux and a Dyna gearbox at hand and use the appropriate parts from each.
Hopefully the extension housing and output shaft from the Hilux box will fit the Dyna box.
Now I´ll start hunting for components, like a wrecked Hilux and a forgotten, rusty Dyna!

You can't put the the 5.15 first gear in a standard Hilux gearbox. You need a R151 gearbox (out of 3.0L TD Hilux or Surf) or R150 gearbox (out of V6 4runner).

If you use a R150 or R151 your then stuck with a chain drive transfer, which is probably fine if you don't want to install crawler gears or dual transfers. If you want to swap it back to a gear drive transfer, than you need another adapter which Marks can supply (around $550 I think). You'll also need an adapter from Marks to mate an R150 or R151 to a 2.8D Hilux bellhousing. I think it is around $375.

I don't think putting a transfer on the back of a Dyna gearbox is easy. From reading Marks website, they make a new extension housing and main shaft for the dyna gearbox to make it work.

I heard that there are several Dyna box variants. I think one of the Dyna's came with the 2.8 diesel as found in lux so maybe that's the one you need. Marks makes some kind of linkage for the Dyna box because it has shifter in different position to the 4wd variants. Have a look at the Marks site under "heavy duty hilux box" at www.marks4wd.com.
