Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Just knocked this up, thought I would share it...

$20 for chopping board
$5 for brackets
$5 for catch
The catch countersunk in the chopping board.
The sides are held up with wire, tied in a knot underneath.
The stays for the wire are attached to the metal of the door, not the trim.

It looks the goods so time to get it dirty gutting some fish on there & see if it works O/K. LOL.

looks pretty neat, but after awhile that choppin board may flex out of shape and need replacing (unless its a good one)

actually it may not as its not subject to direct sunlight or heat that often (not as often as one in a boat anyway) so you prob find it will last foreva.

Had'nt thought of that, perhaps I could put a strip of small box section steel along the bottom. Taking it to straddie for some fishing soon so we will see how it goes. Could not stand on it though....

maybe back it with some tread/diamond plate to stop abrasion too.

pull it off and grey vinyl the back so it match the door vinyl.

I want to do this on the back of my cruiser, never thought of using a chopping board to fo it.

I have one yet to fit which replaces the whole panel on rear door, with same locking latch.. apparently on rough ground they pop open too. Your better off with one of them slide locks.

ive done this to mymaverick and used checkerplate and wire cable with top notch fittings and all up it cost me @ 60 bucs! looks great and takes the weight of three cartons of piss easy!

I wonder if I can make a table that folds out 180 degrees for the drop down door on the 4Runner......... Then again I can sorta use the door itself anyways.

The chopping board is very stiff, and is "anti-bacterial food grade" - bonus. Got it at Big-W. The catch is very strong, I would be very surprised if it comes loose. The only problem is getting fish scales/guts jammed up in it, or the ball bearing rusting. Have to coat it in lanolin spray.
I might look at changing the stays from wire to straping, like old seat belt stuff, and put a 5mm thick strip of aluminium along the bottom.
The chopping board was the biggest I could find (I only looked in one store!) but it could be a little bigger. If you could find somewhere to buy big panels of this stuff that would be better, but I bet a lot more expensive. I think this type of plastic would be better than wood, at least as the surface material.
Anyway the skies the limit - and it was $30!

Just saw a slightly bigger chopping board without the handle cutout from Target for $17 if anyone is interested...

go to a hospitality wholeslaer and you can get one cut to size ordered in

Call E-Plas at Parramatta road underwood, they have all sorts of plastic materials there, can cut to size if need be. 07 3808 7693. PTFE, HDPE, acylic, HI acrylic, Polycarbonate, HD nylon, they have it all. Also good source for poly acetal/nylon rod for lift blocks...
