I was greasing my uni`s, suspension etc today and noticed that my centre bearing seemed to have a lot of play in it (i`ll get it checked out first but)so how hard are these to replace. Will i need any special tools (i`ve got a cheap torque wrench and a good tool set) and a gregorys manual, looking at this it looks easy enough and probally take about 1/2 a day (my first one remember).
Should i also replace my uni`s, all but 1 felt fine will replace this at same time.Front uni`s felt fine aswell.

Also how long should on of these last,i`ve had the car for about 2&1/2 years and it hasnt been replaced.
Car is a 95 LN106,Dual cab,Diesel 2.8,5 speed manual.

Thanks
Mick

If you've got the gregorys' manual it will be easy. just make sure the steel dust covers seat well on the shaft on reassembly, if they are loose they may flop around a bit, squeel like a stuck pig and cut into the rubber boot that holds the bearing. If they are loose, you can shim them up with some tin strips. Coat the parts in some grease to prevent rust freezing, rest of the procedure is in the greg book.

They are meant to have some play in the rubber isolator, but no play in the bearing itself.

Is the bearing squeeling/noisy on rotation? any sign of the rubber perishing?

No the bearing isnt making any noise at all,it mainly the up and down movement i can do when push/pulling around the rubber boot .(i thought this was main bearing part) .Will get it checked when i buy my uni next week.
