removing rear axles

any hints on how to remove my rear axles from a 1lt diff?
we tried reversing the drum and using it as a makeshift slide hammer to no avail.
what next? i dont have a slide hammer btw..

put the tyre back on the drum and belt the tyre with a big hammer should come off in no time

cheers zook60. the diff wasnt in the car tho :) so i ended up belting a piece of wood wedged in between the drum and the backing plate. same technique, same result.
my main concern was that we were missing something in the teardown which was preventing us from pulling the axles (like a circlip or similar), but it seems they were just stuck fast. all good now. everyone go back to your pr0n.

ok i snatched it with the zook and it popped right out.

ok the real story is this:
we tied a snatch to one end via the shedpost, then attached a triple hitched rope to the other end via the zook and put a bit of tension on it.
THEN we got the flog-o-meter onto it and it popped right out. it was perfectly safe so go back to your pr0n.
