Guys,
Anybody know of someone or someplace where I can get a Speed Alerter (one of those beeping things that goes off when u go over a certain speed, similar to the ones fitted to Holdens)?

Need to stick it on the Hilux as im prone to speeding and dont have unlimited supply of points!!!

Anybody got experience with the Holden ones, ie. how easy to customise it to suit the Hilux?

ANy info would be good, and NO replies saying that I should slow down, thats a given! :finger:

Thanks.

take 5th gear out :finger: I would presume they would be reasonably easy to adapdt, I would assume they run of the speedo and that would be where the issue lies as you would have to make sure the the sensore in addapted to suit signal from the hilux as it would be different???? maybe someone can tell you if the speedo was out after a commo v6 swap into a lux :?

I think you can get something like that from Autobarn or Supercheap?? The ones off of a surf fix to the back of the instrument cluster and go off at 105km/h (well the one on mine did anyway)

im after the ones u can adjust to suit the speed limit in the area ur driving thru. they would have the up and down buttons or something similar to adjust the speed limit setting.

Will have a look at Supercheap (but probably just crap like everything else they sell) or Autobarn (they are better!!)

Thanks,
keep the ideas coming, havent got it sorted yet!!

Jaycar have a kit for a speed alaert I think, could a be a good option if the price is right and you don't mind making it yourself.

The Jaycar one sells for 65 bucks, could be a goer, has speed display and up/down buttons, but i reckon if i solder it up I'll probably burn out the chip!! This one also doesnt wire into the existing speedo cables, so no mucking around with that. It has a magnet and revs counter that u attach near the drive shaft, so sounds easy to install. Thanks for the heads up Phippsy

Will check out the one from Autobarn as well, cheers Mad cruiser.

Tiny, cruize control is too pricy, but I still need something that makes a racket to remind me to back off the gas, but thanks for the idea.

U can buy sockets to solder in, instead of worrying about melting the chip, ask the guys at jaycar for the right sized on, and the IC just clips on.

Using a magnetic sensor on drive shaft, would you need to worry about mud/oil/crap blocking the sensor or giving a false reading?

the magnetic pulse generator on the drive shaft setup from Jaycar is basically 4 magnets taper/cable-tied to the drive shft, and a bolt wired in as the sensor. as each magnet spins past the fixed bolt, it generates a pulse, which increases the number of times per sec past the sensor as u speed up. Good idea for a street car, but I too am concerned about the accurancy on a 4by. hows it gonna work after u dunk it in a mud pool, or thru scrub bush under the 4by, etc etc. Like i said, a great idea, but not for a 4by.

The VDO one sounds the way to go for me, unless I can figure the Holden one into the equation somewhere. Will need to investigate the VDO one more, and try to find a cheaper seller than Autobarn

ive heard that Surf owners go insane with their beepers, and yeah they are not adjustable, thats why im not looking for a surf one from the wreckers.

Once again, u gotta love the Toyota engineers!!!! Hooooohahh to Toyota for forward thinking!!!! NOT

Eventually went for the VDO speed alerter from Repco, $62 bucks i think, got 5 wires to wire in.
Battery positive, ignition positive, earth, speedo signal wire (was a bitch to trace the wire back into the cab,but found it finally behind the glove box where it goes into CPU computer) and lights on signal (or earth it if u dont want light on beeper). spent the day wiring the bitch in, and after all the rooting around with removal of glovebox and half the dash, the bitch didnt even WORK!!!

surely it couldnt be that hard to wire it in???? tested all the connections for connectivity so no probs there, but what the f*&k?

now I gotta pull it all out and return for warranty testing. talk about a pain in the arse!

i must be missing out, mine wouldn't reach the speed to set it off,

not even with a down hill and a tail wind.

What rig you driving?

My mate has an 84 2.4d. He struggles to speed in school zones! and he's still got all his points. Go for one of those. Its stock and goes suprisingly well.

rub it in GQ96!!

as for the lack of speed in the toyos, I used to have a 2.4D 4runner as my first 4by years ago, had it from 38 thou Ks to 120 thou Ks, and the only problem with speed was the long uphills, other than that it was ok, nothing to brag about but still ran better than what u guys are saying.

mb u need to get new injectors? injector pump? timing? at one stage my baby was pumping out so much black shit that i got fines by the EPA (mustve overtaken an inspector and pissed him off??). had the injectors serviced and best thing i did to the beast, went like a dream.

maybe give that a go?

i might be wrong, but if it's beeping all the time, wont that mean your still speeding :finger:
