guys,

if i was to do a 4 inch coil lift on my SWB GQ......

I cant afford to do the whole mod in one go.

my question is can i just chuck 4 inch springs in it and castor bushes.....

and get away with std length shocks just for daily driving until i can afford to replace the shocks are are they tooo short just to get around in?

similar question to brake lines.

cheers

shocks will be too short, you'll get away with brake line if you dont intend to articulate it too much.

why not buy the springs and casterbushes and leave them in the shed, until you have all the bits? then there is no hassles what so ever.

Don't you need double cardin joints on a shorty for a 4" lift?

Double cardin joints are not nessacery on all SWB. Mate has a 5 inch lift and has no problems at all. He only uses 20mm gearbox packers.

i have a GQ shorty, with 6" wagon springs, so its currently sitting around the 7" mark, i used adjustable upper arms, lowered the pinion and my vibes are gone cruising at 60, only there under acceraration

one other thing, i may be wrong, but cant you get a new rear brake line, and move the existing rear to the front, as it is longer?

Wouldnt the 4'' be a pain in the ar$e to tow the MQ with. You will have to run sway bar and conectors to make towing easier.

i run 2 inch suspension with std shocks.. and i only have 1 inch downtravel

not runnin swaybars atm (cbf puttin em back on after my 5 inch lift was removed for towing) and i can just about rooster a wheel if i turn hard enough

most of my finances are being drained on my moon buggy for werock - after that the focus will go back on the GQ to get new shocks etc.

if your exhaust is bothering you.. why not do a 2 inch body lift for less than a hundred.. and chop the exhaust and redo it so its nicely tucked under away from rocks.

i run 6" lift in my wagon, and tow with it, the trailer doesnt sit levbel, but pretty close, handles okay without swaybars, and shagged shocks,

Screwy,

About your original question, i don't know if the shocks would have enough travel to fit 4" springs but if they did, anyone who knew what they were looking at and saw the shocks at full travel when its not flexing will think your a dick. You won't need to replace the brake lines cause you still have the standard shocks so you won't be articulating anymore than you are now so it won't be a problem. Thats if they fit, in the first place.
