could not be bothered reading all the pages there....
have you put it up on four stands and had someone "drive" it while you are under there to see if you can hear where the noise comes from...

OK if I get this right do I get a prize????
I had a similar noise on turning RH curves at 100KMH or so in my old 77 Range Rover with 2 inch springs..
It was the RH front spring vibrating in harmony with the UJs, and amplified.
The fix is to push plastic tube over the spring to damp the vibration.
Simple but infuriating eh?

Thanks for the replies
I linked it as there have been a fair few ideas put forward.
axle stands no , as 100kmh on axle stands would be too risky.
thanks anyway.

Put it on a 4wd dyno, that should duplicate any issues. And safer than stands.
But have road tyres on it when you go - you won't be popular with muddies. Don't even think about Simexes :-)

Well after:
x2new front propshafts
x1 new rear propshaft
x1 replacment transfer box
x1 replacment front diff
x3 crawler box removals (testing)
new suspension bushes
rebuilt handbrake
different prop phasing tried
The vibration stayed.
Enter a Bluddy good bloke "Rod" AKA Roddy from here
Double cardan prop fitted
90 driven to national speed limits + or - a bit
NO VIBRATIONS WHATSOEVER ALL GONE NOTHING NOT A BLUDDY THING, YES YOU READ THIS CORRECTLY
So if you have +2 lift and castor correction arms (mine are QT BTW) and you have vibration on overrun above 60mph
I strongly suggest you fit a double cardan prop as the first thing you try.
Thanks to all for suggestions/assistance.

Tony,
Do you know the part no of the d/c shaft you fitted? And what model is your Defender?
I'm going down this D/C route - it seems diesel D2s have 2 different shafts, and theres a 3rd shaft for V8 D2s - and the diesel ones are nearly twice the price!!
No difference in flanges either end apparently , the difference must be in the length.
All very confusing!
TIA

mine is a 300tdi but the same prop will fit yours.
you'll need:
prop ftc5320 from a TD5 Discovery 2
flange stc4379 also from a Discovery 2
the flange is bigger than the TD5 defender item.
the seal is the same though.

Just fitted a V8 d/c shaft , and yep its transformed the car. Noises & vibrations disappear. i didn't think it was exactly bad before, but this is a different car.
Can hear other noises & whines now..
