Advertising new prodcuts on Outerlimits...

I would just like to introduce myself, I have been reading through the posts here for the last few months and I have found this site seems to be for people who like to use their cars or at least set them up to use them.
I am from Australian 4WD Specialist and I would like to show the range of custom bar work, body lift kits, recovery gear, 4WD Accessories and tyres we have to offer.
I see other businesses have been advertising their products and before I start to show our range I am asking the edicate of this site.
You may want to think about this, either everyone can or no one can.
Another suggestion is the businesses who would like to show off their products and services, have another heading made.
I'm not sure but you may want to start a poll for feedback on people ideas.

Not being a moderator here but I think it's based on an honour system where if you have something new or interesting, people are keen to see what you have to offer as long as it is not abused by SPAMing the system with every bit & piece on your stock list.
A tip, we all like PPIIIIIICCSS!
... but, I'm sure a moderator will chime in and let you know if this is unacceptable. Sometimes specials are also posted in the 4sale section if you are having a runout on tyres or something.
Never the less, Welcome.

I think a vendors section would be a great idea as it allows for easy viewing and easy moderating. So moderators what do think about the idea?

I agree Grimbo.
A seperate area from Traders is an excellent idea. Rather than having hidden posts in other areas from Suppliers, have it out in the open. No favouritism then, just fair information for the Forum.
Thats 2 votes and counting...................

Sounds OK. The only prob I see with that is the same thing that happens in the 4sale section ... too much chit chat.
If some new product gets posted up, let's say for a Patrol, there could be a lot a questions and discussion about it which would prob be more appropriate in the Patrol Forum.
Just my 2c though ...

A bita chitchat is ok imho....I like the idea of a "traders" section - as it gets obvious & annoying to have advertising shoved down your face....

The main things I want to show are pics of our custom bar work ect...
Not your everyday products that we have already seen and heard plenty of times before.
We will also offer monthly specials etc.

Advertising new
prodcuts on Outerlimits...
I don't know about the rest of you, but this sounds painful to me
Maybe I'm getting old, but it seems some of you are keen for a "prodcut", as long as it is in a different section
Ahhhh, to hell with it...........put me down for one

I think most of us did notice this but thought it's prob a bit early to razz the newbie on his first post ... specially if he's got good shiat for us

i think that so long as what is being offered is on-topic (i.e. only Nissan Stuff in the Nissan section) and not repetitive, i don't have a problem with reading the advertisements. I don't think that there is too much message traffic going on in here now that it is going to cause any problems.
Just run some simple rules on it:
i.e. Advertise in the relevent section - i.e. if it's suzuki, put it in suzuki, if its general 4x4, put it in general 4x4. i gather that is what is already happening in there now. maybe use a subject heading that says "Advertisement:..."
bottom line - if it means a bit of friendly competition between businesses occuring on line in front of us, then i think that is going to get the users of this board a better deal in the long run. And i think a little bit of sensible moderating could quickly clean up any rubbish that gets in too.
regards,
Greg

i don't mind reading a bit about what a mob has to offer, but only if, like the others have said, something a bit different, or something that's new.
i think wendle put a post up in the nissan section a while back about tubework for gq's and that was good to read....sam from overkill has been keeping everyone updated in the suzi section about his tube front bars.....and i've heard about cheezy racing stuff around as well

I agree, if its a new or exciting product, post it in the forum that it aplicts to! cant do any harm, and does offer us more market to choose from!

i reckon its a good idea.
one post first up detailing everything and then after that only to go with the topic or when asked for.
So far advertising by the guys on here has been "not over the top" but they were on here to chat more than to advertise.

This is just my view and we will have to wait and see what the ADMINISTRATORS decide!
I think the Vendors section is a great idea!
Now to restrict the amount of Dribble/Chitchat that may occur we could simply LOCK the post!
So once as a company posts about a product, detailing the price, availability, usage, photos and whatever else they feel will sell the product, the post is then LOCKED and if anyone is interested further in a certain product they can either call, e-mail or PM them!
NOW!
For the VENDORS out there thinking that this sounds all well and good REMEMBER this is a FREE CHAT sight, meaning we talk about products from our own experience! Be prepared to see people DISCUSSING you product or a competitors product!
Some people TELL IT HOW THEY SEE IT and will not hold back about a certain company or product if they find the service or item is not to there standard!
There is no PRODUCT BASHING but people HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS on what works and what doesn't!
Just a few things there to think about!

dude, you just contradicted yourself a bit, I think?? If the topic is locked after it is posted there won't be any free chat about it. Unless it is in a different thread and that won't really make sense.
I think they should be open to discussion. If you want to push your wares, be prepared to deal with a bit of feedback. At the end of the day it's good for everyone. If you are informative about your products, people will be more confident in dealing with you. There is already a quite a few people on here doing exactly what sandy is asking permission to do, a bit more competition is a good thing, I think..

I too think is OK but the thing is that the treads must be regulated that they are topic specific and dont go on to dribble about (what r u doing on the weekend ) if the two partys know each other outsie the site , THATS WHAT THOMAS EDISON INVENTED THE PHONE FOR) but other than that product debate and discussion would be a good thing.

Sorry i meant that people may talk about your products in OTHER sections, eg i brought a high steer kit for a hilux (toyota section) etc etc.
But yes i can see you point about leaving it unlocked!
I was really just trying to make people AWARE of the Dangers of selling there product on the board! (imo)
Think about it this way as an
example!
If i brought a "Heavy duty CV" of you and it broke first time out , i would call you and get it replaced!(if it wasn't replaced then it only can get worse)
Now having access to the site i would then put a post in
what ever section was applicable and tell others that i was out wheeling today and that "Super heavy duty CV i brought from BuMfArk 4WD sales busted and fell to pieces, man it certainly didn't live up to my expectations".
"Yes it was replaced quickly but it has really lowered my confidence in this product and next time i will try Bootie fab 4wd heavy duty CV's instead, i have heard they are working heaps better"!
Know what would be the reply to that by
SOME vendors that you have dealt with!!!
All i am trying to get across is expect the GOOD with the BAD!!!!
I am not having a go at anyone, i think it will be great if it goes ahead, i am just trying to point out to the Vendors interested the dangers associated with advertising on a OPEN FORUM!!!!!

I think the problem sometimes is that criticism can sometimes get out of hand. Constructive criticism is good as it allows the vendor to learn from it and hopefully provide a better product in the long run which is great for us. When it degenrates into name calling and personal attacks (have a look thru pirate at some of the crap that goes on there) all it does it trun into a 5 page thread with no point but childish bickering. This where moderation will have to play a big part in controlling things

This is why they get paid the big bucks
Seriously though, the potential for it to turn nasty is always there, but people must be able to express their views and opinions from the own experiences and perspective.
Look at it this way, you don't see people smashing someone if they say the product was terrific, why smash them if they say it was sh!t ?
Dan
BTW, none of this is aimed at you Grimbo  , it's just that I liked you comment about moderation.
