RUF details

OK OK I searched :P

Im thinking of chucking OME rears on all 4 corners of the wifes zook.
All the posts relating to doing a RUF are a bit lacking in pics due to the damn hackers we had a while back. So if anyone has pics of how they fitted their RUF (chasi extension etc) post em up!

Im not chasing huge amounts of lift or huge amount of axle moved foward (although a little would be good). Am running 30" MTRs on 15x7 sunnies and dont plan on going much bigger... maybe 31"s later.
What Im really after is a better ride and some more flex.
At the moment it has some dodgy aftermarket springs that are STIFF. I have fitted around 1" extended shackles and the shocks and brake lines are a bit short which doesnt help the lack of flex.

If I go the chasi extension and move diff forward route -
Will I have to modify steering?
Will I have to modify headlight bucket (running 30-31" tyres max)?
Will I have to modify bumpstop mounts?

What are peoples thoughts on using a small chasi extension in combination with redrilling the rear mount holes back a bit so you only get half the distance of axle forward?
Is that just a stupid idea?

So lets make this "The Ultimate RUF Thread" for when other zook newbs like go searching.

Depends on how legal do want to keep it?

Mine has had the rear mount cut off and welded 2" back. looks factory. with 1" longer shackles. I have redrilled the axle pad also .5" to keep the diff in std spot or a bit forward. (never measured)

Not a proper RUF as people say it but the same as the RRO bolt on kit.

cheers

Pics of mine.

do a chassis extension and move the shackle mount forwards, this way your tyres won't hit the firewall, you'll get a better balance for the car, more flex etc etc.

Your tie rod may just toutch the drag link no big stress. I don't know how you'll go in WA for rego with this done though.

Not sure on trimming your headlight buckets with 31's though, most probably will. PM Christover1, he's got a similar setup with 31" mongrels.

I got standard ome front springs on the front, I just redrilled axle plate to move diff forward 22mm for better firewall clearance, tho I still needed 12mm of bump stop extension. The drag-link and tie-bar do touch ever so slightly on full compression. I also have extended shackles, about 30mm longer ish..

Hey ausyota, will I figure I better put my 2c in this discussion.

I really recommend moving the diff forward as it really helps with stability and comfort. When moving it forwards be sure to only move the mount a maximum of three inchs or less if you have extended shackles. This will ensure that the shackles work properly. It might be wise to measure the rear mount to mount then copy up front.

When I did mine I moved it a little too far. OOPS. This really stuffed the benefits right up.

PS: if you want some OME springs or shocks at half the price of new give me a PM.

A RUF can give you as much or as little lift as you want. Just depends on how you build it. Main thign to consider is what springs you use ie. lifted, flat, stock pack or leaves removed and also the length of the shackles that you use.

May be off topic, not 100% sure;

What are these banana shackles? Can they be used to do ruf without chassis extension; Is that why they are bent, to fit the longer springs?

I tried to find some info on them but didn't have much luck.

banana shackles are just basically for lux guys
they clear the body mount when they put rear springs upfront
