how to drain fuel from fuel lines?

so i've taken the fuel tank out, and i'm about ready to cut the original mounts off with the grinder....

.....but....

..... there is still a whole heap of fuel in the fuel lines.

how can i drain the fuel out with out making a complete mess of the place.

i figure, grinding and cutting metal with the grinder = sparks, lots of sparks.

and with fuel very close, maybe its not such a good idea.

can i just take the hoses off the fuel pump and use my air compressor to blow the fuel back out? maybe with a very low pressure?

then if it works, and i get the fuel out, can i just hose the area down with water and start cutting?

thanks
Steve

You will be right, just hang a rag over the end of the fuel lines so u dont get any shit up them, but if u really want to get rid of the fuel compressed air is the go. the fuel that does come out the ends wi evaporate off very quickly so i wouldnt bother with the hose. Just cover the ends with a rag so it doesnt end up all over your shed wall (will look messy)

I would try a bicycle pump or airbed style pump first to keep the pressure low and prevent the fuel from atomising.

I'd also plug the lines and seal them with tape before grinding etc

ok, done. thanks guys.

i just got my lil bro to hold a coke bottle to the end of the fuel line, and i just blew through the hose from the fuel pump. all came out ok.

then out came the grinder, and off with the fuel tank brackets.
