Hey guys,

I want to drain the fuel tank on my hilux. I just bought it recently and it hasn't been started in a couple of years.

It's still got old diesel in it and I want to get rid of it.

Where do I dispose of it correctly ? I live in Sydney.

Thanks,
Daniel.

Diesel makes a great parts cleaner. I'd keep it if I were you :)

Put it in a suitable container and take it to a waste disposal station. They have facilities for disposing of oil, so i would assume you can dispose of diesel also.

you could dilute it with used(BLACK) engine oil then just tip it in the waste oil thing at the tip :P its black so the tip guys wont know.

otherwise keep it as parts cleaner, next time you gotta do wheel bearings or cv's youl be glad you did!

Take it to nearest Waste Management. I took 40lts of old engine oil (accumulation of last 4 changes) to the one in Old Widnsor Rd (Toongabbi) today. They will take old diesel too. Theres no charge so do the 'right thing'

Just had a flash back

The other option is to add some paint colour and use it to stain your wooden fence.

This was a 'common thing' back in NZ a few years ago when diesel was about 38c/lt and febce stain was about $5 :-)

use it as fuel. drain any water off the bottom of the tank and just use it, it will be fine. diesel doesn't go 'off' like petrol.

it doesnt go off but it absorbs water slowly so eventually you have really really crap fuel.

also i think the algea buildup in a tank thats been sitting for 2 years would be pretty bad. best to do a clean as he intends.

applying heat would boil off the water, but just keep it for parts cleaner, much more use then just tirfing it out
