Yes nissan diffs.
5-link front
4-link rear
coilovers all round.
It has taken 11 months to build mainly due to our workload we have made 3 different coilover designs and a few link setups till we were failry happy we still need to change the rear lower links and play with the panhard rod angle.

The coilovers are our design based on a Rancho.

Its getting the exhaust and the body work done then we have about a day left then he wil get. We still ahvn't taken it for a good drive yet and I want to make sure it drives properly before we get it back.

do you have any close up pics of the front suspension you could email me?
what sort of dollars would i be lookin at to do the 5 link on the front of my hilux, using a hilux diff?
did you have to modify the body mount under the drivers floor to clear the front trailing arms?

so it has one of those special splines where it reverses the rotation? or did you fit the gear box backward or does the truck have 5 reverse gears?

Along with the special tailshaft, you did install the muffler bearings right???
Seriously though, Sam do you face any liability issues in regards to installing illegal suspension components on a customer's vehicle? I'm talking about the heim joints. From what I have heard, they were illegal regardless of whether an engineer certifies the suspension setup overall.
Hypothetically, it's just if that guy had a huge accident and if the heims broke during the accident, his insurance company could easily refuse his claim. The guy could then play dumb and blame your company for installing the heims.
Now I know that heaps of us have things that are "questionable"
from a legal standpoint, but apparently the use of heims unfortunately doesn't sit in that gray area.
Or, is it simply a customer requested modification that you have informed him is illegal and is not intended for road use?

The modification is for offroad use only. But the heim joints are only illegal if used in the wrong way. You can't run a heim if you run it with a steel on steel mounting system ie a steel bolt the same size as the heim ball bore. If you run rubber bushes inside the heim and then a bolt inside the rubber bushes then that is legal. So that then makes it a LEGAL modification.

History of the Heim Joint
World War II produced a host of inventions, some of which are still in use today. It’s common knowledge that the Germans used nitrous oxide to make the Messershimtt fighter planes climb higher and faster than the Allies’ planes. When the allies shot down the first German plane they noted a unique device also pioneered by Messerschmitt, the rod end.
One U.S. company received the nod to duplicate this new control link. The H.G. Heim company was granted all U.S. patents, and to this day the part retains the nickname "Heim Joint". After the Korean War the surplus aircraft parts market boomed. Hundreds of varieties of rod ends became available at a tenth of their original cost. Many of these parts, while designed for aircraft, were not up to the task of suspension links for race cars. High quality and economical rod ends didn’t appear until the late 70’s. They were produced by a Japanese company, N.M.B., which was caught by the U.S. government "dumping" (selling below cost) rod ends in the U.S. market. N.M.B. had to form a U.S. presence or leave the marketplace, so they bought a U.S. company, N.H.B.B. (New Hampshire Ball Bearing) and continue to make aircraft-quality rod ends today.
As the Heim patents ran out, a U.S. company began to manufacture economical rod ends for the power transmission industry. Superior Industries mass produced economical rod ends and over the course of a few years people from Superior formed Aurora, National, and several other rod end companies. Today over fifteen American companies make rod ends in the U.S. These products run the gamut from the stamped steel bodies used in control links for garden tractors to the 17-4 PH stainless units found on nuclear submarines.

Sam,
I wasn't aware of the steel on steel ruling. I thought that there was just a blanket rule over the use of heims. Do you have anything in print from the RTA about that?? Something I could keep in my 4wd along with my eng. certificates or send to my insurer?
That's good news though, I was going to screw around and machine up a johnny joint copy but if I can use heims, I'll just use a standard rubber bush on one end of my links and a heim on the other, too easy.....

I am a member of the forum, i will be there for sure maybe with my hilux if its on the road sam told me it should be by then
