First thing is where do you intend to drive and over what terrain. This would determine a lot of requirements.

buy doing the solid front swap i can use rear leaves and bring my diff foward an inch because were the diff mounts on the leaves is offset then i will be able to fit bigger wheels under my lux with minimal scrubbing and i will end up with more travel in the front than standard because the rear leaves are longer and flatter so i would rather just keeping going with what ive i got

by putting rears i the front your diff will move atleast 2" foward

i know all about rears in front
but what i am saying - get a sfa hilux, then go cross over with rears in front
either way you look at it, it is a bit of work as you really need to run dropped mounts - or use wedges - unless you are nick
IFS hilux
Cut out all ifs
Track down front axle
Hysteer arms - or make / buy a double flip arm
Install all suspension mounts for sfa to go in
SA Hilux
Install dropped front hangers
Track down IFS steering box
Hysteer arms - or make / buy a double flip arm
Both ways will mean new drive shafts
lift

thats a good point i will run with what ive got apart from the front suspension my car is set how i like it for now it would cost more for me to start all over on another hilux than what it will to just finish mine

Bubs you D!CK!!
How the FARK is it going to work out cheaper for him to get rid of his current lux and get another with a live front axle!
By the time he BACK TRADES or sells it for heaps less then what its worth and then pays heaps more for a gen 3 then what its worth, hes going to behind the eight ball to start with!
Just do what you want and do a live axle swap!
it really won't work out that expensive if your willing to do the work yourself!
The plan you have sounds pretty good, however NOTHING will make it UNSTOPABLE!!!!
There are heaps more mods you need to do after you convert the front!
Diff locks front and rear, 36 tsl's, reduction gearing etc etc!
By the way LIFT is for HOMOS, keep it as low as you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

didn't say it was cheeper - i thought it would be less work - but when you read what i said i have come to the conclusion its about the same work
so solid axle swap it

Don't spend your whole life working on the truck! get it on the road (tracks) and enjoy the bloody thing!
It's important to know WHERE you want to drive and HOW you want to drive it, and build your truck around that requirement. Once you know that, you can work out EXACTLY what you need. Good advice is always worthy, but you've gotta be able to sort out the wheat from the chaff.
Height is overrated, yet clearance is important. Again use your better judgement for a good CG.

if you look through the pages of this forum you will find quite a lot of information on peoples current spring set ups
for the rear - you can run explorer rear springs with using a extended shackle because uou have the IFS frame - i will have to check this though - and these springs work well
i run parabolic front springs only because i didn't want to mess with spring mounts and cross over for the mean time
i am builidng a new rig which will run rear springs in front and some sort of coil in the rear or mazda leaf springs like i have in the 4 runner

Do explorer springs bolt straight into the back of an IFS?
And do they flex more?
Do you need to mod them at all? like remove leafs or anything?
Just curious as I need more flex in the back of my lux.
Paul.

Just what I was thinking about last night and did a little research, from what I gather you will need to make new hangers and shackle mount as well as using an extended shackle. They flex heaps better than standard rears and some other springs and I think they are @ 56" long. Not sure if you need to mod them but the weight of a 4runner and a Explorer should be similar for mine, although for a hilux you might need to play with the pack abit. Might well be worth the price of a set of springs to give it a try and see what happens.

I had explorer springs in the rear of mine until i went 3-link!
They are 56 inches long and you need to move the front mount forward and run extended shackles! You will need to mod the pack! Going by memory this it what i did!
Main Explorer
2nd main hilux with the eyes cut off!
3rd 2nd explorer spring
4th 4th explorer spring
5th hilux bottom spring
You also need to grind the explorers as they are about 11mm wider than hilux and they wont fit between the u-bolts!
Flex was good, but you will need to do a NICE tidy job, you will need to get it approved to be legal! Mind you if you do it neat enough and it still looks factory than it makes it pretty hard to pick up!
Also some of the Explorers came with different load spring so the above set-up may not be quite right!
I paid $100.00 for a complete set from 4x4part australia @ Brendale!
I also drilled small holes in the rubber bushes to get slightly more flex!
