Hey guys, anyone no what rough cost for a getting a reco done on a 3.0L NH for a 91 GLS is?

Or idea of cost for ring set and set of valves for it would be.

Or would purchasing a already reconditioned engine be better?

I would say around $3-4K for a proper decent rebuild with a few tweeks thats supplying your motor to be done.
Maybe $2.5-3K for a changeover reco but you hear so many dodgy stories.
RPW in Perth do performance rebuilds (on yours or as a c/o) you can give them a call.

Do you know of anyone in Brisbane to do rebuild on mine. The engine is still running fine except for blowing a bit of smoke under load when taking off. Assuming it to be a worn rings or problem with valves as I've heard this is also an issue.

Is doing the rings and valves that big a job? As have a mate that was talking about doing the rings ourselves ?

Yeah it will be the valve stem seals for sure.
A lot of guys replace these only and end up getting 300+K's out of the motor.
I reckon a lot of rebuilds ended up being done on these motors just because of valve stem seals (common issue).
Sorry don't know anyone in Brissy that I can recommend.

I had a full rebuild done through repco engine centre in Tas NH 3.0l, $2800 for complete rebuild....my mechanic was suprised at this, he is a toyota man!!

Changeover HM was also about $2900. My mechanic advised against this and managed to get a good deal through repco, my motor was rebuilt using top quality parts etc.

cost about another grand for my mechanic to pull out and back in, engine mounts etc.

I used REPCO heads and lifters in my NH and while on holidays burnt a valve so another $2200.00 later we were on our way again, this was just for 1 head and all the other crap you need when you open it up again, by the way it also required 3 sets of lifters after the rebuild as they kept failing I would not use REPCO at all

i've heard of a $1500 replacement motor from a place on nrth side with 50-60k on them ....jap imports .but if you can take the heads off yourself have been quoted $300 to give the heads a new lease of life + gasket kit seems to be a big problem with them .........mine smokes at start gut i'm not going to do anything just yet (not bad enough)

I spent around $3500 last year on a rebuild (including a new block and a bit of tweeking)

You should be able to get a complete rebuild for around $3000.

spoke with a guy the other day that reckons 6c coomdore motors bolt straight up with new engine mounts, haven't followed this up myself but .... anyone confirm this? Alternatively, i have the same valve seal problem. a penrite rep suggested putting "engine stop leak" through it. Have done 2k in it so far and the blue cloud that followed me everywhere has goonnnee!
cheers.
