Yeah, just wondering if stocko poverty pack GQ's came with LSD's in the rear??
Also, could you put one of these in a front housing? I'm not sure if they're the same dimensions??
One more, do the poverty pack ones have five link rear? I think so but in a mag I was reading, it said this fellas one only had 3 link. I'm thinking it was just a typo.
Cheers.

AFAIK all GQs that didn't have the factory locker ran an LSD.
And all have a 5 link rear except for some cab/chassis models that came with rear leaf springs.

It's quite rare for a GQ to have no LSD in rear, even DX with rear drums had LSD. You can put an LSD in the front if you are willing to machine some stuff.

What's the main reason why you can't put an LSD up front??
Is it like the 80 series scenario when they put the smaller hilux front diff in?

Front is 31 spline and rear is 33 spline.

Also, do you need new panhards for a four inch lift??
And do castor correction bushes surfice or are drop brackets or correction plates the better go??
I've heard the castor bushes flog out heaps easy.
Can you put johny joints in the trailing arms or is this only good for massive lift?

A four inch lift is borderline as to weather you need to replace rods and sh!t. My GU has a 4 inch and still retains all the original gear, i think the weight of the vehicle will have a bit to do with what is required.
Correction plates are a better way to go but bushes will do the job, they do flog out after a while though.
If anyone disagree's don't be shy as l have limited knowledge in the mechanical field.
Hope info helps.
Joe.

If you go the castor bush, use the ARB ones as the TJM ones by design chew out, and don't flex as much. These bushes will correct up to 2 degrees, which FEELS about right for a 4 inch (no steering wander). You definately won't need drop brackets for this proposed lift. Panhard rods etc will be fine, it's only when you wanna go higher that you need to think about these things - panhard rods, brake lines, breather hoses, adjustable upper control arms, notching the gearbox crossmember for front driveshaft clearance...

Yes all GQ wagons come with LSDs. (except Ti which came with rear locker)
Yes all GQ wagons come with 5 link rear.
Depends upon what brand 4" lift you are going with, but my Dobinson 4" lift is more like 6" and definitely requires castor plates as I need about 11 deg of correction. You will only get about 1-2 deg out of the bushes despite the supposed 3deg that they claim to get out of bushes.
Carlton and I have done some calcs on castor correction requirements and we have found that for every 1" of lift over standard, you need about 1.8deg of correction, so you will actually need at least 7deg of correction or lift the front radius arm pin about 35mm, only achievable by usng plates. Of course these are only guidelines and you will need to do your own checks before changing anything.
I definitely needed adjustable panhards for mine as the lift pushed the axle about 30mm sideways as the panhards rotated.
I am not a fan of drop brackets and would rather plates for clearance reasons.
I needed to fool around with brake lines as the stock ones were too short under full droop (when the truck was lifted on a hoist). Also need a bracket to raise the spring mount for the the brake proportioning valve. V.easy to do.
The Dob 4" is perfect for what I want!. A trail capable rig that I can still drive comfortably onroad. Even without lockers I can get it most places without drama.

As to the question with puttin an LSD up front may i also ask, the splin difference is only for the shaft is it not? Is there any chance that you can take the spider gears out of the front centre and replace in the rear centre to have up front, or are the spider gears different between the fron and rears?

Brake lines are easy, as you get a longer one for the rear and use the old rear one on the front. Put a locker in the front and you won't regret it.

the GLI didnt have an LSD, or side steps ,tacho, radio, flares, volt gauge, oil gauge, arm rests and was a six seater...that was the extra poverty pack
The rear lsd doesnt fit but you can fit an MQ rear lsd to the front and redrill to fit the GQ front crown wheel.
