33's on a GQ...

Hey guys..
have just got a GQ wagon and have been driving it around for a few weeks. I have noticed that the engine revs out quickly.. ie.. pulling out of a junction you are in 2nd and 3rd gear as im getting into the other lane..(hope that makes sense????).
what im wondering is if i fit 33's how much with this reduce the revs? will it give me longer gears?.. and will it affect the towing capabilities much?
I can guess most of this really... but would like to hear from someone that has them fitted. The engine is good and tight and runs a treat on LPG.
cheers guys,
rob

i noticed very little power difference on 33's from 31s when i put them on mine. fuel economy is also about the same.
with regards to gearing, it will help a little, lower the revs for the same speed, but not by a huge lot. Tb42 motors rev out very quickly and the gearing is generally short so i doubt ull notice a huge difference....
i havent noticed a huge difference gearing and power.....

i just went 33's from 31's and i get about 60km less out of a tank and you can tell there is a pretty big power difference.

i also lost abit in the fuel department... but i just leaned the LPG back half a turn and increased the idle to suit.
ended up keeping fuel economy the same......
power difference is a trade off...... its a touch slower the accelerate but doesnt run through the gears so quick and has about 300RPM lower highway speed in 5th and 120kms......
much of a muchness me thinks.

Did you take into account that the 33's probably take you another 60km with out the odometer measureing it. As unless you have changed the speedo gears to suit. It still thinks you are running 31's. That is unless you use the GPS like I do to calculate my economy while running 35's.
As for revs I think at 100km/h in 5th. it makes a 300rpm change lower for an increase in tyres size of 2inches ie 31-33-35.

Generally speaking there's no real issues from 31 to 33" on a 4.2. It's only 6% gearing difference or about 1/2 a gear.
There's one hill I notice where it seemed a bit loud in 3rd and too low in 4th with the 31"s.
The same rules still apply - it's a bit better in 3rd and while it's a few less revs it's not enugh to make me feel it's right in 3rd. But it's definately too low in 4th.
Even with a 5 speed gearing is never perfect :(

ok ive got 33's on mine and the 4.2 on gas in the shorty.
down the freeway sitting on the dot at 110 km/h
the revs sit on the dot at 2500 revs.
compare yous on 31s to see wat the diffrence is.

Of course this depends on what diff ratios you run. Mine had 3.9s when i went to 33's and was crap. Then changed to 4.1 - ok, but 4.3 was better.
