2 Questions - Suspension Clunk - Exhaust

1) When ever me paj gets on certain angles, there is a high pitch clunk/snap sound that sounds like metal litting metal,
I am not sure where it is comming from but i can sometimes feel it under my feet (so possible it is the torsion bar).
My dad (who owned the car before me) said that the dealer had to muck around with the torsion bars to stop them from moving or something but im not sure whats goen on there.
The rear suspension looks a bit rough as well, any thoughts

(this clucnking hapens on things as small as gutters)
Question 2
Got about 4/5 holes in the muffler, just wondering what my coices are with regars to a new exhaust and getting more power. Possibley things like extractors or a larger bore exhaust.
just remember the engine has done over 250,000 ks and will probly shit itself soon and that i have a uni student budget.
any thoughts/opinions would be greatly appreciated
Cheers
Dave

dave do you live in canberra i'm sure i have seen the bar on a white lwb in narrabundah.
now to your exaust question, for cheap ring around the wreckers and try and find a whole exaust on a car and replace yours with that one it should be a strait bolt on.

Yeah that crack type noise when the suspension flex's out is common on Paj's. It does seem to be related to the torsion bars however some claim that the rear trailing arms can make a similar noise. No one has actually managed to isolate and find a cure for it.
Upper wishbone bushes, swaybar bushes can be the cause of squeeking noises and balljoints can make a popping noise but that loud "crack" type noise feels right under your feet.
Mine used to do it but doesn't now with the axle swap.
My mates 4 Runner does it to but not as bad (torsion bar front).
With the exhaust/muffler if you want to go new get a 3.5 V6 muffler fitted I did some years ago (cost was $250 from memory) the pipe is 2" diameter (3.0 V6 is 1.75" diameter) there's no extra power but a nicer exhaust note.
Or you could replace it with a 2.25" system and sports muffler (high flow)from the cat back that may give a few more HP with a nice note.
The pics of the rear end look ok except the coil spring rubber bumpstop looks a little frayed on the end (wouldn't worry about that). The rear end does look a little sagged though - maybe time for some new coils ?

Thanks for the sugestions,
Bitsamissin:
Ill will have a look at the V6 3500 exhaust, or possibly the 2.25''
i was looking at getting a 2" lift on the back and winding up the front, just havnt comitted to it yet, i spent my money on a cb instead, maybe i should have had different proirities. in the mean time ill just use my bashplates
cheers
twinnie:

I get a clunk in the front end when I do a u turn over a gutter, the wheel has to be at full lock and clunks when drops off the gutter. My conclusion it shocker or calaper guard slapping.
Hope this helps

Glenn - I think your clonk on full lock will be the steering stops and as it moves on the suspension - metal on metal there. Just rub a small bit of grease on the steering stops and see if it disappears....

well I got no digi so no pic but the steering stop is down quite low on the lower wishbone i think. Its easy to see, its shiny from where the hub rubs on it when on full lock and sort of looks like a bolt head. Putting a little grease on it will stop the clunk or crack sound it can create when going over a bump from the metal rubbing against metal

If the noise happens when the front end "drops" at full lock then it will be the steering stops - as stated some grease fixes this. If the noise happens when cornering (not always full lock) then it will be an upper or lower ball joint.
When wet, my car still makes the loud "crack" at full articulation even after chasing it down for nearly 5 years. Personally I still tend to think it is the rear trailing arm bushes at the chassis allowing the trailing arm to load up and then release.

I did a test and seems to make a noise not just on full lock but also JUST before full lock as well.
I dont know if I should be to worried about it but its just a little annoying.
