mine cost me $180 in perth from the extractors back 2" system.
for that price you should be able to pick up some extractors and a 2" system for 550 or cheaper.

I am fairly philosophical about exahaust pricing. The hardest bit is not finding a cheap shop, there's plenty of them, but rather finding a good shop that will do high quality work, and charge fairly.
$550 sounds like a lot if you are looking for a "cheap" price but if it is high quality work, its pretty reasonable. Over half of that is in the extractors, +around $60-80 for the muffler doesn't leave a whole lot for labour, tube, hangers, gaskets etc.
I put together my own exhausts for the stuff I work on, and it isn't a cheap exercise at all, just for parts alone. I was sick of asking for quality work and getting muffler clamps, silicone and hope holding an off road exhaust together, so now I do it myself.
Try and find out who does the race/rally and high end performance work in your area. This will be your best bet.

Sounds to me like alot of you will be having to replace your exhausts regulary!

CHOPS: My system is 3 years old and well thrashed over any terrain. Still fine and good flowing. I told them where to run the system and to tuck it up in the chassis rail height or higher. 2" straight through system, 1 muffler. Same BHP steel as most of the other places use. I have got a stainless system on my car it is not needed for the zook.
The muffler is a berkley i think. this is what most of the exhaust places use. Aussie made. The extractors were not in that price as i said and mine are about 10yrold genies.

Not saying yours is cheap and shit nicbeer, just that there are some dodgy ones around. With our cars and where they go we need good strong well made systems. i got a 2" mandrel system (not stainless), hi-flow cat and muffler, all done for around $600. no extractors (insurance wouldn't let me ), but is from the engine back. work was well done, tucked up nice and high, had it in for a year and no drama's at all

I got a 2" "sports exhaust" from some regular guys in penrith, NSW, (can't remember the company, but it's a regular chain there), and it was $180. Sounded great, good work, never had a problem with it. Standard is 1.25 or 1.5" i think. This was on my 89 vitara, few years ago, but it was done without a mandrel, just a normal pipe bender, and straight thru exhaust pipe. I've done 2 sierra's with 1 or 2 hot dogs/glasspacks, whatever you wanna call them. They give great flow and a good sound, and they're cheap and easy to install.
I believe the cat back system helped flow. Never could tell an actual power difference, but it definitely sounded like more power.

It will be definately onepiece mandrel with high flow cat.... the muffler and pipe diameter are still on the drawing board.
(Any idea what is the diameter of the downpipe under the factory extractors? that would be the best size for a cat back right? )

maybe try for a 3 piece system if you can.
1st piece being the extractors, 2nd being the cat and middle section, and 3rd being the muffler, over the diff, and tail pipe.
i have found one piece systems sometimes get in the way, when modding or servicing, and so being able to remove the section in question would be good.
saves cutting up a $300-$600 system i reckon.

well yeah that's what i meant.. i spoke to my mechanic today (exhaust specialist ) and he said if i wanted mandrel to go out west as all the local boys purchased the mandrel bends and then welded up the pipe...
