Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Just wondering how the front sunroof section of the roof (above driver/ passenger) is removed?

If anybody is really bored and has got the owner's manual and a scanner I'd really appreciate the section on roof removal (front and rear)

Ya don't need the manual to remove the roof !

Front Section :
Pull down lever (as if to open the sunroof) but instead of then pushing it up inverted as you would normally do, reach your fingers in to the side of the locating pins that it swivels on.
Push locating pins towards the centre and they should 'fall' out.
Lift entire section from the back upwards to remove.
Once roof is vertical, you need to lift the roof section up, out of the front locating guides.

To replace, just locate front guides first and slowly drop roof section back into normal position and relocate the pins at the side of the lever.

Rear Section :
Remove rear window first
Remove bolt caps from the bolts - 3 either side beneath windpw and 4 from accross the top.
Remove the bolts
There are 2 more bolts held by semi-captive nuts to attach the roof to the rear roll bar. Remove these bolts.
Get a hand from the missus and lift the roof off. Start at the corner by the doors to loosen it, then move to the back where the roof is held and lift over the locating pins.

For the first time, it may be a little 'sticky' but be careful, nothing will tear or break.

Good luck........it's really cool with the roof off !!!! Especially on warm summer nights !!

Forgot to mention - Disconnect the rear window wiper and rear window demister (where fitted).

Too much hassle to scan 6 pages of the manual.

The screws on the sunroof handle were loose when I bought it, so I figured you must have had to undo those to remove it! It's developed a annoying squeak in the front hinges when closed which I want to fix, I'm not planning on removing it in winter!

Just watch out for puddles when roof is off in summer !!

I got drenched after hitting a large puddle a couple of months ago....normally I just take the back half off and the rear seat passengers get a soaking, but this particular day I thought I'd remove the front section as well.....................D'oh !!!

Yeah, I noticed some of those idiots on Australia's Worst Driver got mud over them in the Feroza they were using (with both roof sections off.)

The one thing I hate about Feroza's with the rear top off is the stupid looking rear rollover bar....I reckon it looks so outta place...if I ever take the rear off, the bar is going too!!

Hmmmm... that will probably help with rear articulation too- through more body flex! Also, no rear bar = no rear seat belts = possibly very unhappy rear passengers. Especially if you roll.

I know what you mean about the look of it though. Next summer I'll be taking mine off and trying it out. I miss the electric sunroof I had in my other car it was fantastic in summer hooning through the Adelaide Hills.

It looks SOOOO much better with the bar gone !!

I had to reinstall mine to pass roadworthy when the car was engineered with all the conversion. Would have prefered it not to have been there, but now its handy to attach the kiddie seat to

(Prolly saved the roof from completely shattering in the roll over last week)

What I want (I think I've told you this before) is a roll bar just behind the B-pillar with brackets that come from the bar and mount where the OE bar mounted, either at the back or in the pre-existing holes for the OE bar. If I get them at the back, I should be able to run the seatbelt mounts, therefore keeping the rear seats if necessary.

Murray, have you got any pics of the rear of yours with the custom cargo unit? Thinking of making something myself one day, the only thing the rear seat is used for in mine is the dog! I don't want to have him loose in the back incase someone rear ends us and he ends up going through the rear window... so was thinking about some drawers with a seat back made to fit infront of the roll bar supports. That would increase the rear boot space too.

Besty the Feroza on AWD (Australias Worst D!) had some sort of extra roll cage in it. Did you see that at all?

No.......I was busy when it was on.....wanted to see it, BUT.....

Don't have any photos yet. Blew up my HDD yesterday so I can't put any onto my PC at the moment

Should have the PC back up and running this weekend. Will get some pics for you. Basically the height is level with the bottom of the rear windows, has a cargo barrier up front, two long draws, fold down rear door section and a small shelf as well...
