Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey guys, I recently got a 1990 dihatsu feroza el3 and the rear speaker pods are looking pretty sketchy (some kinda crazy plastic rust type of deal) anyway I'd like to remove the pods to repaint them and also probably put some new speakers in there, so my question is;

whats the best way to get to the speaker pods in the back?

if there was some phillips head screws somewhere it would be alot easier to get to but i cant see any.. i tried pulling on the trim and managed to 'un-tab' one of the sections but i didnt want to go pull the whole thing off if it wasnt nessicary - looks like i might need to remove the mini-glovebox section at the back too if i need to get the trim out - which hopefully i will be able to avoid.. also;

What front speakers are there in a feroza? are they replaceable?

it _sounds_ like there is only one speaker in the front under the dash kinda stuff down the bottom on the right hand side, perhaps there is another speaker that has blown - im not sure.. anyways, does anyone know how easy or hard it is to get at this speaker to replace it? is it possible to get another standard type speaker to fit? as I like to put things in the factory type positions if possible after mucking around with cars for a while and going through headaches of speakers being too big etc..

not too sure what speakers are in the rear originally... but to put my 6x9's in i found i had to remove the rear "glove boxes" and take out the trim's. But like i said i have no idea what speakers where originally in there. O i had to unbolt the roll bar from the side at the back to slid the trim out.

As for the front speakers, they are a pain to get to. i had to take out the globebox and loosen up the support structure so as to wedge my hands in there. Up front there is 1 4inch speaker on each side. Any 4 inch you get from the shop will fit in.

If the rear speakers are standard (don't sound like they are??) then simply remove the covers (press fit) and undo the screws to remove them. The vinyl covered wood trim is held on by plastic clips- pull carefully to remove them. The plastic bins do need to be removed to get the trims off- from memory the screws inside the bins secure them to metal brackets underneath.

Front speakers are 4" in dash either side at bottom. PITA to remove, although some people have done it and replaced them with coaxials. I've just added tweeters onto the door mirror "sails" and left the factory speakers in there (a lot easier IMHO).

if the front speakers are blown.. no point in replacing them as you will just blow them again, and thats a promise. ur better off putting a pod down on the doors and installing 6 1/2" speakers there to replace the front dash speakers. much easier to do imho.

why would you blow them again? buy good speakers and they wont blow.
I bought a set of pioneer 4" splits, filled the cavity up with sound deadener, wired them up to an amp and they run perfect.

sen, 4 inchers cant take much abuse.... only way you'd be able to get some real use out of the 4 inchers is if you installed some filters on the input of the speakers in order to eliminate pretty much all the bass and have em set for only mid to mostly high range sound. then have the rears put out the majority of the bass. for the cost vs performance, your better off installing 6 1/2" min compared to the 4".

i agree, they do need to be filtered. my 4" splits have a 150Hz high pass cross over and a seperate 5KHz(?) filter for the actuall tweeter.

So yes, if your not going to be running clean sound through a HP crossover then they will blow.

I just dont know like pod's to much, had them on my last car and they just seem to get in the way.

yeah thats the only drawback with pods on the feroza... not all that much room on the doors for em... thats why i mounted a marine speaker on the dash in front of the gauges. didnt have any to begin with so i just used the spaces there for switches and then put a speaker in front of it. worked a real treat and produced excelent sound.
