Weird Hiss

When I stop my D2 with SLS and get out I can hear a constant hissing sound for two minutes at least. At first I thought it was the SLS but now I think it's something else . On closer inspection I think it's coming from the engine block but it's always too hot too feel around when I get out. I though it may have been the head gasket. I released the cap from the cooling system to relieve presure and the hissing kept going. Tonight I shall try to locate the hiss further. What I was wondering is if anyone knew of the SLS hissing i.e. letting out air from the system after the car is stopped.

It's a V8

, OK will check for vac leaks. Don't think it's aircon. Thanks boys. I guess the wierdest thing is I quickly went round and tried blocking the sound with my hand in different places. Now the only place the sound changed is when I put my hand near the exhaust manifold. Hence me thinking head gasket because my hand would be blocking the sound coming from the block. I will go around tonight with my ear on the end of a hose to try and locate it.

Its the bloody centrifugal oil filter spinning down!!!!!! its like a spin dryer and spins at high revs.
I have heard it often on a TD5.

Whoops, didn't read carefully enough.
I have never heard a V8 hiss, so I think is your SLS.
long shot. Injector leaking into manifold. Never heard it but could be.

The SLS is under the passengers seat bolted to the chassis though.

Yeah it's not SLS. Still can't really locate it but I'm certain it's cooling system. Seems to be around the welsch plugs.

I feel a head gasket coming on. Puzzled that it did not stop when pressure released. Maybe leak from head/block join onto exhaust manifold???

I reckon it is the AC compressor - get a short bit of hose and start listening you will soon work it out

Thanks for the replys people. In the end it turned out to be a breather on the drivers side at the firewall which I traced back under the car to the charcol canister. Now, the breather had fallen onto the exhaust and melted, then it fell down to rest on the chassis and it actually looked like it ran into the chassis rail. The melted end created a very small hole that obviously made a noise as the breather was breathing. Now I have a question for d2 V8 owners. Can you please tell me if you recognise this breather and whether is is supposed to have a one way valve built into it. If you look at the end of the breather it has a peice in it the had melted. I have cut the melted end off and it's now quiet. This piece looks like it may have had a check ball in it. I think the breather was supposed to sit where the other two small ones are in the first pic.

Geez, I thought you were showing pictures of my car then

.
if i'm not mistaken those breathers are for your front diff and t/fer case or g/box. Maybe?
Not sure about the check ball though, I've never really noticed them much except to put them back in there clips

The two in the first pic are breathers.
The other one in the second and third pics is the hisser. I think it goes to the purge canister and i think it iss a suction hiss. Perhaps there is supposed to be a filter on the end cuz it's vacuum
