Battery Questions

Thinking of going with a sinle battery setup in my zook, will hve to cover cranking, running motor, lights and winching. Looking at running an Optima Yellow Top D31A, 900cca :D

Do you have to upgrade the cars wireing to deal with the bigger battery, i think no, but freinds say yes. The load that is pulled from the battery is still the same, so no need to upgrade, correct?

Does the same apply if i upgrade the alternator? Looking at around 100amps from a rewind, so im thinking the cable that is used now is for about 40 amps, so i think this could use an upgrade, correct?

Cheers
Richard

you should upgrade the wiring from the battery to the alternator as the current output will be greater aside from that , that's it

I've just upgraded the alternator on my Feroza, and thought I'd be smart and upgrade the cable going from the alternator to the battery at the same time. When I went to start it after the rewire most things inside were dead.... but no blown fuses and power was available at the fuse box in the engine bay?! :?

Turned out somewhere along the cable from the alternator -> battery that there's a T junction that feeds into the cabin. So check if this is the case with yours before starting a rewire. ;)

You may also find a fusible wire link near the battery in the alternator cable- make sure you incorporate this into the new cable. It will just be a thinner piece of wire near the battery +ve (or you may possibly have a big mother fuse there?) Either way reuse them with the new cabling.
