hi,

looking at buying a patrol soonish, and just gathering info.

What would be a good reasonably cheap conversion for the L28. not thinking power monster either.
would the RB30 fit?
or what about the commy 3.8v6?

or is it worth rebuilding the 2.8 and getting it worked a bit?

were all the 2.8s carby?

cheers,
Shem

Hey dude,

L28 motor in patrols all are carbi. with regards to the motor conversion side of things.......

none of the GQ motors will bolt in and are all a massive pain the but to make work with gearbox mods and cutting floor out for wider box and custom shafts etc etc.... it would be far more than a straight forward motor transplant.

Another reletively easy converion is V8. i know u are not looking at power here, but u can buy converions kits from the shelf from marks etc and they go in nice and easy especially in an L28 thats already 12 volt and petrol.

but i think the converions your after is putting an L28E in urs.

they are out of the Z series nissans.

they are an injected petrol L28 2.8 litre. they bolt straight in exactly the same with all clutch and mounts and box and radiator and everything.
bolt in.

all u would have to do is modify the wiring for a computer and pipe up new fuel pump and lines etc. thats about it.

PM MARKx4 he has this motor in his, very straight forward and goes well also.
here is a link to his rig:

what about form sd33t to a l28e, probley alot more envolved, wait are the torque/power gains/loses. Or is it better jsut to spend buck son fixing the sd33t?

massive changes.

all wiring from 24 volt to 12 volt... or if its 12 volt u dont need to worry....

all fuel filters and fuel pumps...

gearbox bellhousing, starter motors, alternators..

if 12volt, u still need to wire all the fuel pumps and leads and ignition and stuff....

radiator, hoses, engine mounts need to be cut off and moved.

EFI computer wiring....

exuast will need to be all new....

etc etc etc

id be keeping the SD33T, they arent a bad motor ;)
