Thinking of building my car up for a possible Outback Challenge run.
Has anyone dropped alate model 5.7 Gen 3 V8 into a GQ 2.8td . Using auto from V8 or 4.2 patrol 5 speed. Has anyone done this conversion? Do marks or Dellows have adapters? What do you thinK ?

as long as u don't use the 2.8 gearbox u should be right its a smaller box
convert with a box from a TD42 and you'll be right
marks do make an adapter .. most common conversion around
seach for Bru's GQ .... chevysmurf

just remember if ordering a conversion kit to specify you have a 2.8t as the drivers side mount if memory serves is about 30mm off alignment to a 4.2 mount or you can cut the mount off and relocate it forward about the above amount. I found all this out when converting my 2.8t to a 4.2t

run a 250mm

by 150mm by 5mm plate and drill 4 outside holes in it to suit the block and weld the engine mount in its new location on it.

i have pics of my engine mounts somewhere. i made my own to suit the commodore rubbers. the nissan rubbers are shite and always tear apart and the commodore ones are cheaper.
the conversion will cost you >10k.
headers are a prick
sump is hard to find or $900 form castlemain rod shop
no colour coded wiring diagrams so traceing is a loom apart affair.
fuel system is harder too as there is no regulator on the motor,
it is not an easy job, and i think next time i would go for the old style chev like i put in my boat. the only disadvantage is weight and a few less herbs, but you could knock it off for ~6k for a new motor and it would be a few weekends work.

Yeah tom thats the way i did mine but 10mm thick plate with the mount holes tapped out with a nut welded at the back but i bolted the plate to all six bolt holes on the block overkill yes but i only wanted to do it once
