Help!
Just installed an Apexi turbo timer in my 2000 Discovery, All works fine until I try to lock the car with the remote detonator while the engine is still running the car beeps at me and wont lock until the timer has expired. Is there a trick to wiring these things in with remote central locking??

The problem is that the car wont allow you to lock using the remote whilst the ignition is on. The only way around it would be to find the ignition/accessory or whatever feed it is to the remote central locking module and try disconnecting it. You would need a wiring diagram to find it though.
Good luck!!

In NSW it is illegal to be able to lock your car with the engine still running via TT. That is why the 'default' for alarms is to wait for TT to stop engine. You only have to wait 0.5 or 1 min assumimg you have been driving in urban setting prior to needing to lock up

in reality,m it is illegal to leave your engine running, if you are more than 3m away for your vehicle,
it is also illegal to leave your window open. whiles more than 3m away.
but we still have a turbo timer on my old mans GU

Don't mean to be negative or a smartarse, but if you have to wait 1/2 to 1 minute for the engine to stop before being able to lock-up, why have a turbo timer in the first place? That is why you get a turbo timer - so you can leave the car running, lock-up and walk away.
I'm sure someone would have found a fix for this by now (I have a petrol Patrol, so I've never come across this before).
Good luck.

No you get a TT to ensure you don't destroy your turbo - it is not something designed to allow you to lock your car and walk away from it with the engine still running

Actually the 'not able to set alarm until engine stops' is the fix...up until about a year or so ago you could lock the car whilst engine was still running. Installers cannot now do that.
Good luck.[/quote]

The answer is aftermarket alarms. My alarm has an auto arming feature, meaning i jump out of my car, lock it the old fashioned way (central locking tho) and 30 seconds after the turbo timer cuts out the alarm arms itself.

Huh?????
You get a turbo timer so that the engine keeps running, allowing your turbo to cool down (and keep water/oil circulating) progressively - but then we both know that.
The "turbo timer" is not something magical that stops you from destroying your turbo - it simply keeps the engine running - that's all! So if it only keeps the engine running to help bring the turbo down slowly, then why not just sit in the car for a couple of minutes and let it do just that. Why? because technology allows to purchase an accessory to assist in this process - a turbo timer.
A turbo timer allows you to keep the engine running without being in the car or even around the car. Otherwise, you would buy a $2 stop watch from Crazy Clarks, put it on the dash, sit in the car and watch the time tick by. You don't need a ($200 ??) turbo timer if you have to stay with the car.
It is the TIME that stops you from destroying your turbo, not the TURBO TIMER. The turbo timer is the convenience that allows you to do it - so if it is not acting as a convenience, then it is not doing its job! Hence the original question.
