Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi all,

I am looking to have some side steps/sliders made up for a GU wagon.
I want to fabricate something really simple, being an 80mm pipe, with 90 degree elbows at each end, mounted to the chassis at three points, using clamps (don't want to weld).

I had similar steps made up for my last vehicle (SWB Pajero) (http://www.jonty-goldin.com/user/jonty/photos/STEP.JPG). Unfortunately my mate that made them up has moved to QLD...

I was thinking of making them up myself, but 1) I'm a sh1te welder, and 2) I'm not sure that my home welder will cope with ~4mm - 5mm side walls?!

I found a thread on some sliders made for an 80 series, which are similar to those above, made by A1MAV
(http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... es+sliders). The workmanship on these look great, and I would like to have something similar made up.

I would appreciate it if anyone has any contact details of good fabricators in/near melbourne that may be able to help me out.

if you want to get a premade set, try on track 4x4 in keilor. if you want to diy and need a hand, i'm happy to help. what kind of welder do you have?

There is a guy up here in Qld who makes them. Not cheap (about $1,500), but the workmanship is 1st class. I saw a couple of sets on some trucks at LandCruiser Park last time, and they looked very neat. And strong too - I think it has 4 points it mounts to the chassis (bolted via a U-bolt set-up - no drilling or welding).

The guy made them is Pete (I don't think he is on this board), but if you PM the guy who posted the pics you should be able to get his number.

cass jones from climax industries makes them as well and they're are bolt ons so your warranty wont be void if you weld to your chassis.

i think cass units are under $1000

I can do em ex sydney for $750.00 + freight with a U bracket set up and high tensile bolts

I think Ontrack in Keilor would probly sell Cheezy ones.

other from that u can do all the prep work to the welding, cut it all, bend it, get everything readdy for the welder, give it to him and get him to do that then u will be able top finish them off, and it should be a hell of a lot cheaper than a brought set

Thanks Tiny. I would really prefer to have someone in Melbourne design and fit them up...so that i can discuss design issues, so that I can be sure i'm getting what i want ...does that make any sense !??

Yep, that makes sense...but i still need to find a welder that does good work...also being the mechanical ditz that i am, i want to make sure that i know where the best attachment points are, what the best method of attachment is (i'm tending to clamps or u bolts...probably be fine for my type of off road work), etc...so i would still like to discuss these factors with someone before i go laying out for and chopping up pipe

Thanks, they look good, but $1500 is more than i would like to pay
