Hey i just want some advice on people with gq/gu turbo diesel out there.
I have fitted 4.6 ratios to my GU and around town they are great in the fine, but what the suck on the open highway at 130 they sit on 3000rpm.
I know you can say reduce speed and yes i probably should but i just find that it revs to hard.
is it worth going to 4.3 or not bother it's only going to drop 200 rpm i think. i have been offered a set low kms for a straight swap only going to cost me new bearings so am not sure what does everyone think.

my understanding is 300rpm for every jump in ratio....
stay with the 4.6 if you don't do a great deal of hyw driving.....

I am still running the 3.9's with 36's and dont have a problem on or offroad. Go the 4.3's and ask for a cash adjustment for new bearings.

I have 4.3's in my GU with a 4.2TD the speedo is 100% spot on.
revs are good at 100ks
i think they are the perfect ratio for the 4.2

I went from 4.6 to 4.3 and also added 35s (from 31). really in the jist of it all, the difference is minimal, but I have the grunt to turn it. The speedo is out to buggery, probably 15km, but the difference I was looking for at 110km per hour wasnt enough, the engine is still doing around 2800, wich in my opinion is still to high.... this is in an MQ...

Yah i reckon if you do a bit of driving on the road having slightly taller gears is good. keeps the revs down a bit and the 4.2's have enough torque to do it happily

I ran 4.375's in both my Mavs with 35's. Red mav was IC turbo diesel. Very well suited.
On gq speedo gears available to correct error if required.
2250 rpm's at 100kph.
