Wide track rear.

I may be getting a wide track rear hilux axle housing and ascociated stuff.
My question is, how much wider is it?
and........ If I run a wider track rear, do I need to do anything to the front to match it, or can I just leave it.
I dont want to run wheel spacers at the front etc......
Any info appreciated....

3 inches wider and it will be fine without any mods to the front.

widen the front with IFS hubs, it may work out to be alittle pricey but it avoids the use of wheel spacers and looks alot more factory.

ok its pricey, someone want to explain what you do to the front?
Does anyone just leave the front stock, or does everyone use spacers?

I am just running spacers all round and still have the wider housing I got (with axles) for $150.00 sitting in the shed

Tonka the front will be fine as it is.I run my front stock. As the ifs hub swap will cost you around the $500 mark without even buying the hubs, thats just for the adapters to run them.

Bolts in.
Not 100% shore but the plate on the bottom MIGHT be a little different. Ruff?

Yes it goes straight in. Although I'm yet to do it, I'm sure about this. What I don't know about is the handbrake cable and whether the bracket is in the same place and what you do about the increased width of the housing?

You either lengthen the cable or get a new one

As long as you use a leafsprung rear axle they bolt straight in to all models.Obviously the coil sprung 4runner rear housing wont bolt in.
Tonka here is a link to a company in the us that sell a kit.

You might be able to run the wider hubs on a stock rocky front - i think they are almost the same as a hilux

Hey Bubs, how much with out the hubs? have you got Richards number?

Bolt's straight in.
When I did mine you also need the shackle plate that is used with the u-bolts from the later model axle. It seems the IFS model axle is slightly bigger in diameter. If you are doing a u-bolt reversal then it does not matter.

Sorry Chris is right depending on what model you have.'88 on will have the wider housing anyway but the earlier models need the ubolts and plates. This also depends on what model wide housing you use. If its from an early 4runner it will bolt straight in as the tubes are the same size.

Ruff,
don't the 4 runners use a drum with a larger center hole compared to the hilux? By the way, Richard's price on the IFS front hub conversion is $440 per side with new bearings and stuff. Bolt on basically. Phone # 07 3344 1181

Yes all wide track rears use a larger centre hole in the drum so make sure that you get all the brakes and drums.Sorry i prob should have mentioned this earlier.
Trust me i will not be doing a spacer conversion on mine
