Odyssey Batteries
Has anyone on here tried them?
Are they as good as some people say they are?
Im thinking of using a small one in the engine bay of my 2.8 lux for starting so I can squeeze in a second air con compressor as OBA.
Like this one http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc680mjt.htm
And then use a BIG sucker mounted under the tray to power everything else including winch and all acc.
Like this one http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc1700mjt.htm
Or this one http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc1200mjt.htm
What are peoples thoughts?
And who sells them (at a good price )?
Paul.

I've had them in a couple of cars, still got them.
Bench life is great, you can start up a car that hasn't been fired up for months. And you can mount them in any position except upside down.
But they don't like winching. The rapid discharge / recharge seems to cook them. Shortens the life badly.
Maybe they've changed, but thats what used to happen to me. I switched to Optima in the 4WD, never looked back.

Yeah I had an optima red top before and was quite happy but it is pretty had it now after about 4-5 years.
What interested me was the little baby sized one that should still put out enough power to crank over the diesel.
There isnt much room in my engine bay to mount on board air because I allready have air con, power steer, and a turbo to fit around
If I use either a small battery (or relocate both batteries under the tray) I can squeze a second air con pump mounted beside the orriginal one.

The place im working at use odyssey batteries for the 12V bore-hole logging systems. They drive a little 1/2hp winch plus other logging equipment for about 6 hours. They are regularly run down to 10.5volts and they dont mind it at all.
theyre the only battery that has certification to be shipping on an airplane
they last longer than any other battery they have tried (theyve tried alot of brands/types).
they charge fast or slow, and chgarging them fast doesnt affect thier life. They charge them with 70amp switch mode chargers.
The one they have in stick is an ES-12V, 1500 its a 930CCA
They can be mnounted in any orientation except directly upside down. So you can mount it just about anywhere.
theyre a great battery, and certainly up to the challenge of a standard car battery, but would also be very good in winching applications. I hear they are dear though :S

Run a Odyssey 1500 (earlier version of 1700-36kg) as aux and optima D31 (1100cca 75ah) 27kg as primary both hardwired in line for 12v winching.
Never drained them fully yet - plenty of juice !
Odyssey is a big heavy sucker but worth every kg. Scored it 2nd hand off ebay for $200 (new price $600!!). Another good thing about these types of batteries - you can transport them on airlines. Got it from bris to canb on Virgin ok. They even supplied a cool hard case for me to borrow.
Something to consider if you want to save some freight and pay a little bit for excess baggage weight.

There is some very uneducated statements in this thread.
If you want to know more about car batteries than you will ever need, take the time to read the info at the link.
