Nearly finished...

Ive nearly finished putting in these motherphucken widetrack diffs..just gotta hook the breaks up, have another go at pullin the old z-bar off (which is well and truly stuck on) and try and get a ubolt to jam in.....
A lot of the 1 litre stuff is interchangable tho i have found...

cam what have you used from the narrow track diffs and what is new from the wide track stuff.
I am in the process of getting stuff together to do the same. I am hoping to use the diff centres and what ever else I can from the NT, obviously i will need wide track axles.

why bother going to wide track?
Did you have to widen the front spring and shackle mounts on the chassis to fit the wide track?
It is still weak suzuki axles. I think the extra money you would spend on fitting hilux diffs you would save in the long run by not buying replacement suzuki rear axles, front axles and cv's.
Hilux diffs in a zook is fit them up and forget about them.

because I have never broken a suzuki one, i'm still spua and will remain that way, get plenty of flex etc running 34s, because i don't want to add the bulk of the hilux stuff, because i have rims and don't want to go to new rims, just needs to have the spring perch moved inboard on the diffs

The red Zook on the right runs Toyota Prado diffs and an Isuzu Rocky turbo with no mufflers - it really whistles and is a great off road performer

i will almost bet you mean 75 series prad, so basically bundera diffs, with radius arms front and rear, coil springs. Good setup for a zook, basically hilux diffs.

I haven't had any problems with the zuk stuff. Here in Vic the terrain is more mud and slippery surfaces than driving on high traction surfaces like rock. With my setup of 34s with low gearing , 6:1 transfer case and 4.1 diff gears, a rear locker and seriously offset wheels i have only managed to stuff a wheel bearing. I don't need the added size and perceived strength of the hilux stuff plus i have most of the zuk stuff I'll need

In reply to micks question......i got the diffs at a reasonable price with lockers..at the time i was gonna get the wheels cut out and reversed to get the extra width...I am only running 31 inch tyres, so what the phuck would be the point of putting in hilux diffs when the diff centre sits heaps lower the zook centre..then have to fork out for new wheels to go to a 6 stud pattern...then new driveshafts...and steering...blah blah blah....and no the mounts didnt need to be changed at all as the perches were in the right position
Grimbo you can use the front discs, calipers, not sure about the hubs but they look pretty much the same...the rear brakes are basically the same but if u use them they will be 45 degrees to the side

Also...the diffs i have are a 3.9 narrow centre with widetrack axles...I know that the 1L diffs (4.1) do not have the same spline as the widetrack axles

so a zook axle is actually as strong as a hilux diff.
Zook diffs just had some bad press?? A good marketing team should be able fix that

I'm not saying one diff is better than the other, just at the end of the day serve different purposes for different people.

He was only voicing an opinion he didnt try and offend someone for using zuk stuff he was just saying that for the hassel you go to fitting wide track diffs you could have hilux diffs which not only in my opinion but absolutly without a doubt are stronger than zuk diffs. There is no doubting this.
And i too read Grimbo's post and thought he was trying to say that the hilux diff is only beleived to be stronger.

THere was NO hassle...thats why i did it...everything (barr a few little things) was there and it BOLTED straight in...no phucking around...to get the same setup i have right now, but using hilux stuff would of cost me about another $1500 on top of what i payed

I disagree. Why?
Diffs and housing $600-1000
Lockers $1500
Hi-steer $800??
Wheels $350
and so and so forth....
WT Axles with lockers and SPOA for $1500ish IMO seems like a much easier and cheaper deal.
BTW I never mentioned anything being better than the other

I don't think hilux diffs are the answer. If your running 31's as is Cam why loose all that clearance by fitting hilux diffs and they are by no means unbreakable. In all the years I ran my old Zook witth 33's and 35's I broke 1 rear axle. Sure the cv's are a weak point with big tyres but with 31's they would be fairly reliable as long as driven sensibly.
Or I know a bloke that makes a Hybrid diff with more clearance than a hilux and a lot stronger.

yeah, i dont think a dana 44 has more clearance than a hilux, but with the suzi centre it might, but would it be as strong? Anybody done any bench testing?
