Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I'm doing an extra cab conversion to my 89 GXL wagon.

Need a few things like;
A) A steel dropside trayback either off a 'cruiser or patrol.
B) Side opening type windows out of a hilux including the sections of body panel around the windows so I can stitch them in. Not sure what the model hilux these come out of so I could check the wreckers out.

I've attached what the beast will look like when done.

Anyone can help me out in sourcing these bits I'd appreciate it.

1) the ute in the picture looks like it has had the chassis extended by around 900mm, judging by the lack of rear overhang it has. If you try to put a full size tray on a standard length chassis you overhang will be huge.

If you want a full length tray, then it could get expensive cause you will have to lengthen the chassis.

OR you could fit a tray of a dual cab hilux/courier etc and keep the standard wheelbase.

2) As for the windows, I would have thought you would do a cut & shut on the rear window frames already in the rear of the wagon. Then cut down the fixed glass to suit your new frame that you have booty fabbed up.

Rear opening windows in an extra cab always leak & are a PITA to open/close. Solids are much better.

Unless you need the window to open, use the standard quarter windows in the rear doors. Just swap them to the other side so they'll line up!

I spotted the hilux chassis measurement thread and wonder if there's one about for the 60 series. That'd help plan this project.

This is the exact idea I had to do to my shell I´ve had sitting in the garage for the last 10mths. I reckon it´ll turn out pretty sweet..... when I get the time & $$$ to play with it...

i know this is totally different but wen we did ours we just bought a old tray from wreckers(we think it was of a 75)and got the oxy out and cut it up then joined it 2gether than got it galvanised.
