hey glow plugs on my rocky are screwed somehow my mecho says it looks like electrics, basically the car doesnt start unless i use 'start ya bastard' and puffs a lota smoke. does anyone know how much im lookin at and could i do it myself???
i did the damage by when a rather deep fresh water creek jumped out in front of me. (i looked shallow i swear)

Its unlikely the damage is from water. Like spark plugs in petrol motors, glow plugs do wear out. Replacement cost, probably around $20 each. They are easy to replace. Any decent diesel mechanic should stock them. Buy one first, and replace it with each old plug in turn, seeing if there is an improvement in starting. If there is, you have probably found a dud one. You will probably have to buy more. If you have the cash, just replace all 4 and be done with it. You can test the old ones, or have them tested.

Seeing as how you tried to drown your Rocky it may be the electrics before the glow plugs. Was it difficult to start before you turned it into a submarine?
Have you tried measuring the voltage at the common rail that connects all the plugs together. You should get about 10 - 12 volts with just the ignition on and this should cycle on and off with the glow plug timer. You'll know if the timer is working because you should hear a loud clunk whenever the timer cuts in and out (about every 5 seconds)
This is based on a 92 Rocky - I think the 88 Rocky will be similar.
Let us know your findings.
