Anyone have any ideas on why my front wheel bearings keep coming loose? Ive never had this problem before on all the other mq's and mk's ive had. Though I probably drive this one a lot harder than the previous ones. And yes Im tightening the lock nut enough and bending over the locking tab onto both nuts.

are yo9u replacing the locking tab as the small tab that holds em in place often looses shape and allows them to undo them selves,

My Mk used to do the same thing.....

Even with new locking tabs it would still vome loose after a couple thousand kays of offroad use.....

35's and constant pounding is what I put it down to.......

Wasn't hard to adjust after every 5th or 6th trip........

Yep even with new tabs they still come loose. The lock nuts arn't coming loose just the bearings are getting play in them.(a lot).
I put it down to a good pounding with 35's but if anyone has other ideas please post them.

I dont know if this is the same problem, but at about 60km to about 75km my steering wheel shakes like it 's possese, past the 75km msk its as smooth as silk, ive had the front wheels balanced on saturday and it has made no differance at all, could this be a wheel bearing problem as well.

The outer bearings wear. Ensure greased well. Tighten up. Check play after each trip. If the same leave alone.
Normally left front..

I would say maybe. I had a slight steering shimmy as well at about 60kays but its now gone.

I just read the link you posted, this 2 screw locking use on the later models will they also fit a MQ/MK series Patrol, just might be the way to go.

When i do mine up, i bend the middle lock washer that is between the 2 nuts back over the rear nut in 2 places and forward over the front nut in 2 places.
so has 4 bends in it.

the little tab that sits in the middle that slots in over the stub axle always looses its shape. If u have any play at all, the tab will move back and forward a touch holding the nuts in place this movement wheres the tab out and it will get to a point where it will sit in a groove on the stub axle thread and slowly undo itself.

the otherside, is as bazzle said, outer bearing wear, u need to ensure lots of grease is packed in the bearings.

Hey guys i dont come on here all that often but this problem with wheel bearing coming loose has also plagued me b4 . What i found was that once the outer wheel bearing is fitted to the stub, the 2 mm hard washer with inner tab was missing and it was actually replaced with the locking tab type washer which was thin and would tear the inner tab. Got the correct washer and fitted it and now the problem has gone away. Hope this helps.

Get rid of the locktab washer setup.
Buy a ring nut , locking coller and 2 screw per side and convert to later setup.

I asked about that same thing when I bought my locking tabs and the Nissan guy said they wouldn't fit as they were different diameters.

I think its about time these guys got off there butts and started to help us out a little instead of taking the easy options all the time.

Anyway I checked my front end for play this afternoon and had what I thought was bearing movement so I took the time out to retension the bearings and change the lock tabs then checked it again only to find that it had the movement still there, I ended up finding it coming from the knuckle and not the wheel bearing, but I did get rid of the front end shimmy I had.

I would probably check all ya Spring Bushes. They may be worn and allowing for slop/play and hence ya wobble problem. Not much else i could think of being a leaf sprung vehicle. Maybe someone else may have a better idea.
