shocks for IFS rear springs

Hi all

ive done the clasic IFS springs in the rear of an LN106 with 200mm eye to eye shakles. im now in the process of doing a U-Bolt flip and putting the shocks in a / \ arrangment.

what i would like to know is what shocks should i run (need to be cheeper end of the scale, funds are lacking!!) how would OME Nitro shocks go (i may be able to get them cheep) Also can the top mounts be attached to the round chasis cross member or is it better to fab up a new cross member for the top mounts??

It also has a 3" body lift so there is a little extra room under there to play with

any advise would be great

i run 14" long travel rancho rs9000's with my set up, they work fine, however they dont come any where near to maxing out. if u sofen the ifs springs however u will come close (which is what i plan to do next), but with this u would need to run a track bar. if i were u i would get something like 15" long travel procomp es9000's, they are cheaper and work just as good as the rancho's. and as far as inverting them go mine are inverted 45 degrees, however im chaning this to to about 15 degrees to cater for the more down travel i should achieve with sofening the springs. so yes 15" long travel procomps inverted at 15 degrees should be good ;)

thanks for the reply Aza

Ive been following your build up for a while and love where its heading.

the only thing that had been turning me off the rancho's are the price (and the lack of money i have  ) At the moment they are std rear springs, but soon will have 40mm lift blocks to level it out. a track bar will be going in at the same time so all should be well

i'll guess i have to see what sort of travel the OME's are

anyone out there got a plan for a lower shock mount, i figure they cant be too hard to make

I haven't tried, only thinking out loud.... Have you tried sourcing Rancho's direct from the US?

i was thinking about the lower shock mount too, because as mine is at the moment, one shock is infront of the diff and one is behind (to cater for twist, obviously).

To mount the shockies in / \ arrangement, the lower mount for the shockie in front would have to be modded also (to the rear of the diff). i know how to do the top mount, but how does the bottom go?

Aza i think yours is different becuase yours is a Gen II lux. (i got a LN106 also).

i was thinking of cutting and gusseting some box section to make the lower mounts. would only cost a bit of time.

is it ok to weld onto a diff without draining the oil?

is there anything major i should keep in mind?

just don't put to much heat into the diffs.

If you're welding to the diff, yes you should drain the oil. Never hurts to change it anyway.

And leave the drain plug out when you weld so i'm told, stops the housing from pressurising with the heat from the welder.
