ok thanks for clearing that up.

sweet my plan for a sub $1000 monster is coming closer

you have to slide the axles out, and remove tailshaft,
so diff can come out in one piece, like most others.
Then its the same as any other 4 pinion diff to disassemble/weld.
sierras and LJ's are very similar set up.
In fact I have 4:9 LJ centres in my 1.o litre Sierra

If you weld the front diff it will not turn so good in 2 wheel drive on the black top because LJ 50's dont have free wheeling hubs.
Just a thought

my first rear weld had slippage, and the constant movement slowly banged the diff to bits, by loosening up all the bolts and cracking the welds.....took 4 years, tho
Now I run two solid welds, and we will see how long it all lasts before deciding which is best

Ever driven with a welded front diff on the road
I think you need more than a little slip
You are able to sierra knuckles/disks and free wheeling hubs, I think you have to muck around with the CV eg sierra CV bell and LJ axels, or maybe you can use two short side NT sierra front axels and CV's, Im not shure.

welded front won't be a concern. this thing will be driven maybe 10 k's on road a week, very easy straight roads... primary concern is that it goes hard, costs bugger all

Maybe have a look for some NT sierra diffs and fit the LJ centres?
