Hey guys, Not sure if this is the right section for this but we'll give it a go.

Are there any alternatives to ARB Space Cases? I am now running a half top on my wrangler and i want to make a shelf with a space case on the rear to run most of the time as extra storage and to keep recovery gear in on the trail. It needs to be strong and reasonably watertight. Any other options out there? And whats the rough damage of the ARB ones.

I think the one I have (900Lx400Hx500W) goes for around the 250-300 mark. I saw Glenfords had some cases there the other day and also if you know someone in the army you may get 1 cheap from them. Mine is an ex army one.

If you know someone in the army get them to get you one. They only charge $145 for theres and they are quite big and water tight. We used one for laptops and digital cameras (and a host of other useless crap) last year on a desert trip. Everying thing inside was nice and clean. As for the outside about an inch of dust.

Yea i got a friend in the army so might give that a go. I need to sus out sizes before i go ordering tho as i dont have much space back there.

Cheers. Will look into the size i need and place my order.

ARB isnt the only ones that sell spacecases.
Have a look around at different 4wd and camping shops and make them compete on price.
My work (Small town hardware/bolts bearings shop) is looking at getting some for stock (not that that helps ). They come from www.trimcast.com.au but Im not sure whether they will sell direct to the public.

trimcast do sell to the public they work out about half price just say your a defence member.......

I visited them on my quest to find a cheaper one and they said no!
So i got one from a mate who works at ARB for a really good price anyway.

I got an army space case as a gift - identical to ARB and very well made in attractive drab olive. They pop up on ebay occasionally.

And SC -you'll be happy to know they fit in the 90cm sq space in the back of a TJ PERFECTLY. No need for tie down (didn't move when I flopped) very snug but U can still open with tailgate closed.

I wanna put it on top of my toneau tho gordo. Gonna make a rack to store stuff up there as gonna be running the halftop fulltime for a while now.

I did same for OBC. Got a wire-framed shelf made that sits flat and bolts to existing holes in top of tub sides (4 bolts). It's made of angle for the edges and stopped short enough before the tailgate to allow a couple of jerries to sit in the gap.

Prob not quite what you're after tho as it would be covered by a tonneau (ie sits flat with top of tub).

One thing to keep in mind with a space case (and others with a hinged lid and tray) is you need to lift the lid about 3/4 open to get the tray out that sits inside.

How much it cost u to get it made up Goatman? I am lacking tools to make it myself

was bugger all dude. was included with cage beef-up/harnass bar done by Rod Kilby of Lochleigh Enterprises in Hall here in ACT (who I blurt about on AJOR all the time - he did Jumbo and Maddog's cages +my front bar and sidesteps).

Just got it finished in grey primer coz we left it to the last minute (how unusual) and would est it to be around $100. Will snap a pic for ya tomorrow.

Most plastics shops/companies like Plastics Unlimited etc. have their own knocks offs that look pretty good and are alot cheaper.

Know any plumbers .. Reece plumbing sells em as well ... find a trady mate to buy you one at trade rates ..

I did a fit out of the guy who owns trim cast. While i was working there he was designing a case for a bazooka. It had to be strong enough to withstand being dropped out of a plane.


Also was given one as a thankyou for the work I did
