Was talking to a mate who has a Surf, he mentioned that he was going to block the hose in which his exhaust gas recirculation valve gets it's gas. A easy way to get a couple more ponies and help burn a bit cleaner. Has anyone done this to their diesel? I've gota 3L and it could be a very cheap way to make her run bettera. Apparently it could be illegal in some states. Can anyone please explain what blocking this hose does and why is it illegal? the conversation went a bit over my head. Thanks -Alex

A vehicles EGR system lowers the engines emission levels, blocking it up is not illegal as such, but it would be outside the vehicle emissions standards, and there fore render the vehicle unroadworthy. But, then again, plenty do it... and how can you tell if you look under the bonnet if a vac line is plugged or not??...
hope that helps
take it easy mate

does this make the car go better? Is it just cheap horsepower? Or no real difference at all? That's what I really don't understand about it.

well, it will help power, and the delivery of power.. im not sure if its a noticeable difference or not. But what alot block it for is long term engine life, then the engine is breathing fresh petrol and air, it lasts longer than if its breathing dirty/used air
