uhf Selcall info

i got a tx4400 uhf and want to know how to use selcall can anyone give me more info on how to use it i'v tried it with a friends uhf and i can call him only if he is on the same channel just was wondering it it can be used on any channel or they both have to be on the same channel

Both rigs have to have selcall. And both have to be on same channel.
I don't it much - mostly to msg a mate when he has the base put on silent.
mostly just a msg wake up for uhf's.

its not really very useful unless your on a trunked network and are using the radios on silent

thats exactly what i have mine for too. i have my uhf on, but silent so i can crank up my folli sik subwoofa mate and not have to listen to wankers on the uhf.

uhf is messed up by noobs

To many people are buying hand helds and dont know the rules or proper CB edicate.
But you still can get a horrible fine from the ACA so be warned all you week end warriors. IT is ILLEGAL to use channel 31-38 (and 39 in some places) as they are the up link for the repeaters. channel 1 to 8 are used in duplex mode. You'd be surprised how many people at comps are using the uplink channels - the ACA will be going to a few comps to nab people abusing the UHF uplink system.

And channels 22 and 23 are no longer legal for voice comms...
