Outer Limits 4x4 Board

What would you find more problematic, grafting a foreign body to a chassis or grafting a foreign driveline (motor to diffs) to a chassis? No, not going to do it, just curious to see what others think.

This will vary from state to state, vehicle to vehicle. A big ol can o worms. If you could be more specific which is kinda hard for a hypothetical question.

There are so many variables in the question, diferent ages of donor vehicles, different power to weight, different weights etc make it an engineering nightmare without specifics. Even hypothetically one combo could be as easy as like fitting Toyota drivetrain to Sierras which is a fairly easy and achievable process but trying to fit Range Rover drivetrain to a Sierra in Victoria is a nightmare (ask NAM), whilst Dozoor has got around this by reboding a Range Rover with a Sierra in NSW. Confusing huh

I seriously thing trying to graft another cars suspension, motor mounts, gearbox mounts, steering etc onto another chassis, would be harder than modifing a body to fit onto another chassis.

The most complicated thing with the body transplat would be making new mounts on the body or new mount on the cahssis so the body fits. I suppose making the trottle cable/ brakes lines/ clutch talk to another chassis wouldn't be easy either.

Either way they are both *ALOT* of work & at the end of the day it is questionable if it worth the effort.

A wieght saving is adding better performance to all your parts,

In my case 1390 kg with me in it , thats 500kg lighter than it was as a range rover , So i don,t know the exact percentage but it coud be somthing like 30% , so you can look at it as every feature is improved by reducing the wieght , and another plus is the wieght is more central over the chassis.
And it was cheaper

Saving weight is cool, But I cant see the point of removing a body that is hard to fit big tyres under, without lots of lift wit a body from a nother car that has the same problem.

I supose in some case Mock ,But Mine will clear 40s with stock springs and right rims, I have an extra 10" of clearance between the sill ends and tire front and rear ,

(if only i could find some )

I thought the RAVs were monoque so it makes it a little hard to take the body off to put it on another vehicle

Softop sierra body(ute converted) onto a Lux chassis ... seeing as alot of heavily modded Zuks end up half hilux anyway .. along with wheelbase stretches etc .. what not start with a chassis that has 80% of the driveline you already want ..

I'm thinking of this same swap at the moment...

FJ73 Body onto 80 Series Chassis, Susp. and Driveline...

Will be looking at the measurements of it all one day soonish, should be fun...

I mean, coils would be cool... Newer gearbox, and then with the addition of the 1UZ, and make it a cutdown softtop with low sides and a two seater, could be a bit of a weapon...

Commodores are Mono as well but people still fit them to Chassies. It can be done.
