Relocating Steering Damper

I am sure most of you have done that.
I am relocating an OME steering damper to the front on my Rangie.
Converted the pin to pin to a loop to loop by welding 2 loops on each side taken from busted Mercedes dampers....and did the typical bracket that hangs down the chassis.
I did the same mod on my disco but it does not have the same damping effect as stock.
Should I keep the steering damper as parallel as possible to the front drag link to aoiv the vibration issues?
This can be done by extending both the dhassis bracket and the U mount for the other loop end.
