About to buy a Jimny - Any advice?

Hi All,

I've got the option to pick up a manual 98 jimny with 80,000 kms on it for $9000 with a 12 month warranty. The body will need a little detailing for scratches, and some small dings, but inside it's pretty nice.

Anyone think that's a good/bad deal? I'm going to want to upgrade the suspension etc later on. Is the jimny an easy vehicle for it?

Thanks
Matt

just dont expect it to be as easy / cheap to modify as an earlier sierra.
having said that, theres plenty of jimnys with 30's and 2-4" of lift. wheres squik? head on over to http://www.jimnyworld.com
getting back to sierras, you could pick up a similar age/condition coil sprung sierra for similar money.

After owning a coil sierra I think a jimny is a much better option. Coil sierras have very limited aftermarket support, weakneses exist both in jimny and coil sierra drivelines and suspesnion setups. Jimnys have all the cool stuff such as efi, power mirrors , power windows aircon, CD player, better cargo space, a longer wheelbase, the fueltank is better positioned etc. The only thing a coily has over the jimny is space for larger tyres without cutting.
