24 Volt to 12 Volt

HI
Thinking about buying a import car and was wondering what has to been done to change from 24 to 12 volt? just wanna find out how hard it is??

My suggestion - leave it at 24V and use a 24V-> 12V reducer for anything you want to power off 12V.
Converting everything to 12V would be a major job and not worth the effort.

Why do you need a 24v-12v converter when there are 2 12v batteries in the car, can you just power the acc. etc off of 1 battery. Use the 1 battery that has the negative that goes to the car body and connect to the link cable between the 2 batteries would be the postive. This would stop the other battery from being discharged and would leeve about 18-20v to start the car with, if you stop using the acc. at about 10.5v. Then both batteries would be recharged when the car is running. Would this work?

No. It has been discussed in more detail before but the short answer is that the charging process favours the battery with more charge, so once you drain them unevenly the battery you are using for 12V will die a quick death. Using two 12V batteries to get 24V (as these cars do) only works when they are identical batteries with no separated load on them.
