Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi guys,
Hope you can help me out, about to mount 4 point harness into a wagon and not too sure as to where to mount them or how. Anyone has any ideas would be grateful

Do you have a roll cage? Most people mount them to rings bolted in the floor. I have mine mounted of my roll cage. It has a bar running across the cab just above the transmission tunnel.

I have a rollcage, 6 point. B pillar hoop runs just in line with seats. GQ wagon

Fitting instructions for harnesses recommend to mount them no greater than 20 degrees from shoulders. There is more than ample strap to mount to floor, how do you recommend I mount them?

Sorry I forgot to say that I also have a bar running across the cab at shoulder height and run the harness straps over that so they have a straight pull and put no stress on the seat. This is why they recomend no more than 20 degrees from shoulders. Do you have a "C" pillar hoop? If so you could run the straps back to a bar across there. Not recommended for passengers though. Also if you have a "C" pillar hoop you could run them from roof height above the passengers heads.

Thanks for that, yes we do have C pillar hoop. Will give that a go. Did you just mount them with crush tubes in the C pillar hoop?

Depends on the mounting points on the straps. I just welded tabs onto the roll cage and bolted the straps onto those. This way you don't weaken the cage.

debatable as to weakening, would have to stress relieve em, heat from welding causes flux in metal crystal structure, also allows impurities into mix, usually if a stress fracture is to occur, it will be right beside a weld line, due to large variance in hardness ( edge of hot zone and diff crystal structure).

Check with harness supplier, some manufacturers do a wrap around mount option i believe.

When i had harness`s in my street cars i was told (by both the supplier and manufacture`s instructions) not to mount the harness to the floor behind the seats,due to in the event of a crash ,this could cause back injurys.

I had mine mounted to the parcel shelf in both cars due to not aloud to have rear seats due to cage set up.

I think the plate i used was about 150mmx150mmx(3or5mm i cant remember now) .This could of been over the top but was what i had laying around.I also used eye bolts for easy removal of harness`s (see below sentance)

If in NSW you also cant use harness`s on the road so if you have these fitted you must also have the vehicles standard seat belt set-up and use this while driving on the road.The fine for using harness`s while driving is "driving with out a seat belt" currently about $225 & 3 points (6 points some times) on various occiasions i was let off but was also done twice (once in Newcastle and once just out of canberra coming home from summernats) That trip cost me over $4000 in fines and defects .
