Incorrect Wiring - Negative Effects?

I Recently had an auto eleccy wire up a 2nd pair of 100w spotties to the zuk, and after 1 week of having them on i noticed the stereo would go on and off upon braking, indicating or high beaming... headlights were half as bright as normal, and a distinct burning smell under the dash lead me to find a fried wire (red one), looks like from lights.

Engine idle is also being affected and im getting a high temperature reading on the dash (its sitting on half way - usually sits on 1/4). Im thinking the reading is just the electronics, however the engine idle being off scares me. i get a small backfire in the carby if i rev it hard and come off throttle quick too.

the scariest part however is that the throttle cable to the carby body is arcing with a nice bright white spark! probably not the best thing to be going on around the fuel delivery system!

when using lights and revving above 2000rpm the cable under the dash also burns again.

Im thinking the wiring for the spotties has been earthed wrong, causing a positive charge to go through the whole body and engine etc, causing the arcing and hopefully incorrect temp guage reading.

I'll be taking it back to him tomorrow and dishing out a few harsh words, but can anyone offer any ideas as to what im going to have to watch out for now that such a charge has gone through the zuk? are there gonna be some things fried i should tell him to replace? (other than that burnt wire).

Cheers.

you may have an earth strap from motor missing or loose, causing too much power to go thru things like accel cables etc. There is often one on back of dizzy to firewall, too. But as you paid an elec you should take it for a check, too.

I think it can also earth through your clutch cable and kill it. Did it to someones on here.

U tried to unplug the relay for the spotlights? They have probably used a +'ve feed and a zook is a -'ve feed.

I hate people working on the zook except me or my mates.

cheers

Yeah its something i thought i might do myself - but then i will have to go over pits soon and dont want anything dodgy on there - so figured it better to get it done right... haha so much for that idea =)

he said this morning, and i quote:
"We've done 1000's of spotties here and spotties dont cause that kind of problem!"

then i said "perhaps you earthed it backwards, i did tell you the suzuki's were backwards..."

"leave it with me, ill call you"

no call yet.

Nic - i think i'd rather it not arc anywhere =P haha although the clutch is a much better place IMO cos theres no fuel there to go boom. But the carby... dam thats dangerous.

And the award goes to Christover1!

missing earth wire, and by missing i mean cooked/fried/toasted for "unknown reasons" hmm.

the wire under the dash cant be replaced easily - it means doing the whole loom etc (dash off) - but is working fine for now. when it dies ill fix that one.
