Does any one no if you can get left and right snokles for GQ i have a saffari on the passenger side but ARB say they don't make them for the drivers side. Need 2 for V8

I would still be aiming for a left-side only snorkel, plumbed to both sides. If you plumb the snorkel to a "T" at the midpoint between the two intakes it will still be balanced, if that's what you're worried about.

There are situations (maybe rare ones, but still...) where you'd rather only have one snorkel to concentrate on keeping dry rather than two.

or just get 2 made up out of 3" SS exhaust

is there any performance gain to be had by fitting twin snorkels, or do people do it purely for looks?

Some of both really... I'd say more for looks.

You can only get so much air into the airbox.. 1 x4inch exhaust pipe snorkel would get enough air in..
Some use the second one for air flow to cool down the engine or for an ICooler.

You could probably adapt one off another model car to fit up.. Lcruisers have a right one.

The Nash shorty GQ ute (red one, was in OBC in '04) has got twin Safari snorkels on it as its running V8, was in 4WD monthly recently, can't remember what the RHS one was off, but will see if I can find the mag and let you know.

if you look close at this truck the left hand side one is std like on a diesel and the right hand side runs longer down the guard but i dont know what its off

a SBC will find it difficult breathing properly though a single snorkle.
Its not all about looks, you need airflow to match the engine.

OK thanks for that.

Having trouble finding that mag, it does say in the article what the RHS one is off it might have been a cruiser I think, it enters through the guard about half of the length of the std snorkle, so I think it would come out just before the battery. It would have to really improve airflow without a doubt.

Be carefull where you bring the other snorkle thru the guard. Have heard of people bring them thru alot closure to the fire wall and it has weakened the guard area alot. Just with the battey and radiator support panel is enough to bend the panel.

Resurected this thread because I (we) need some help with sorting out what people have used as a second snorkle on the drivers side in a twin snorkle set up. Would it be a 70 series safari snorkle??

The looney I navi for had the comp truck dyno'd and it's not getting enough air basically, it's a V8, so we're going to twin snorkles. Yes I know you can run a single 4" blah blah, but it's going to run a second safari snorkle on the drivers side for various reasons.

Anyway if anyone can help it would be much appreciated!

Cheers, Beretts

I don't haven't got a snorkle yet, but it is interesting to note, that on my standard 4.2 efi GQ, at full throttle, under load, I can get the blocked airfilter light to come on.

I have a brand new filter, so maybe the standard intake is a restriction, even on my stocky (maybe it is the LPG that is the restriction?)

You can run 60 series rhs n mq lhs or i think it was a nm pajero ( some sort of pajero around 99-02 mod) rhs n gq lhs sized them all up took about 2 hours at arb a few years ago I went through most of the stock they had n found those the best matches

Good luck

i guess twin snorkels would be the go if you had twin throttle bodies like a injected 351w or similar

A single 4" pipe flows heaps more than 2 3" pipes. Why would you bother having to worry about 2 snorkles above water, or getting whacked by trees?

by nastytroll
If you double the diamiter of pipe it flows 4 times as much so a 2 3" pipes will flow as much as 1 4.5" pipe also the side profile of a safari snorkle is lower then a 4" pipe so 2 3" snorkels will flow more and have more clearence then a single 4", unless you have a dyno report of before and after to proove me wrong I'd say run twin safari's or go through the cab if its a comp truck

just personal preference at the end of the day its your truck

I would like to see where you got your flow info from....

Sorry but 2x 3" pipes flows around 12% more than 1 x 4" pipe!

80 series snorkel can be fitted.

JOHNZ wrote:80 series snorkel can be fitted.
Hey thanks JOHNZ for the reply, quinny had a look at one of them and didn't think it would fit properly, I thought it was a 60 or 70 series one that fitted. Have you fitted an 80 series one to GQ?

Nastytroll thanks for the help also, will check out a 60 series one.

Thanks Mick for the photo too.

Does anyone know Chris Nash that they could ask him for me?

Gee, air must flow different to liquid.... or this calculator is wrong.

I've seen 60 series safari snorkels fitted to GQ's in the past. A bit longer than the GQ one but still looks good.
